About Dr. Mehrshad Shelyan
Dr. Shelyan moved to New York City to obtain his Doctorate in Dental Surgery at New York University. After an extensive training in general and cosmetic dentistry at NYU and an exciting life in Manhattan, he and his wife decided to move back home to Los Angeles.
Dr. Shelyan believes that it is possible to have a comfortable and pleasant dental visit. The key is to simply reduce any fear and anxiety there is. By using soft music, aromatic candles, and relaxation techniques and/or anti-anxiety medication, Dr. Shelyan assures his patients’ comfort from the moment they come into the office until the end of the dental treatment.
Dr. Shelyan also believes that anyone at any age should have healthy teeth and a beautiful smile. He makes his patients feel good about themselves regardless of their teeth and gum conditions. Patients openly communicate with him and his staff and after listening, Dr. Shelyan educates them about their dental needs and how to improve their oral health.

The dentist and staff are very nice, but make sure to triple-verify that they actually take your insurance plan. Their ZocDoc page said they did, but I found out after my appointment that they do not, and I now owe out of pocket for a routine cleaning.

The dentists tried to upsell me, and charge me for services that weren't covered by my insurance. They made bogus claims about issues I needed to have done that my insurance didn't cover. They then called me later that day to charge me additional money claiming that my insurance didn't cover the X-Rays THEY insisted on doing, even though they ran my insurance a month before the appointment and never brought this up. Very bizarre experience, I will not be going to them again.

Incredible experience. I had to hop on an unexpected meeting right when my appointment started and the staff were completely accommodating, professional, and attentive to my circumstances. The dentist even came back after my meeting was done to make sure I hadn't missed anything he said. Everything about the visit was seamless and I felt they were all highly skilled at what they did.

Visiting LA for the Holidays, and had an emergency dental issue. The office manager contacted me right after I filled out the forms by phone the night before. The staff was friendly and I was seen right away the next morning. All was taken care of and the dentist was lovely and explained procedure.
Made what could have been a terrible situation not a bad one and did not ruin the holidays!

First off - WOW. For someone who had not been to the dentist in a long time, had some issues that needed to be addressed, and def had some shame around it, I can't even describe how AMAZING Forever Smile was. From the first call to finally meeting them at the office, they were SO KIND. Helped me understand exactly what was going to happen on the first appointment and what to expect. They were responsive, communicative, and so nice. Seriously. I knew I had chosen the right place before I even set foot in the office.
And when I got to the office it was no different. Even at 8am on a Monday, everyone made me feel like I had been coming for years and that I was meant to be there! Friendly staff who helped me feel at ease, and despite having some teeth issues, did NOT make me feel any shame or embarrassment. They really understand that it can be hard for people to get back to the dentist after a while. Dr. Shelyan was efficient, gentle, and thorough in his exam.
After the exam / appointment itself was over, Sarit came in and sat with me one-on-one and talked me through all costs - including what my insurance paid / what I would be covering. But this part took it over the top (although I had already loved the experience) - she then used visuals to explain what they would be doing at my next appointment, why, what the science of it was, and gave me stuff to use at home (toothpaste / mouthwash). The office itself is feels very luxurious - clean, beautiful rooms and nice natural light.
Honestly. I have never in my life had such a positive experience in a medical office. I am so thrilled to finally have found a dentist in my area with a staff who don't just make me feel comfortable - but actually have me EXCITED to come back.
5 +++++ stars. If you're looking for a dental office - look no further.

I recommend everyone to Dr.Shelyan. I've been terrified of dentists all of my life and he has definitely changed my perspective. Don't be too skeptical of the reviews that you see. He's very genuine and so is the staff. My experience with everyone at Dr.Shelyans office has been amazing and Sharit is fantastic. You really can't ask for a better group of people.

Dr. Shelyan was great. I went in for a root canal (one of the worst dental experiences ever in my opinion) and he eased me through much of the ordeal, even offering me nitrous oxide to help calm my nerves. I'm especially impressed with his front office team, though. Kristin and Sarit were so awesome and they definitely held my hand through every step of the procedure, from financing to making sure I stayed hydrated. Love them and definitely will be returning for further dental needs.

He will try to sell you expensive treatments and surgeries, but otherwise he is a good dentist and my teeth feel great after my cleanings. He did an excellent job, I just wish I didn't feel pressured to pay out of pocket for procedures he knows I can't afford.

Dr. Shelyan was professional and informative in his bedside manner. He explained all what was needing to be done and the reasons that we needed to do it. Also explained the ramifications of if it didn't get cared for. Appreciated the honesty from him and his staff. Would definitely, and am, go back again for my dental needs.

The entire team worked together to provide a polished and professional enperience. In short, I really enjoyed this trip to the dentist.
During my appointment we completed solid research on my teeth, did realistic projections for a strong prognosis, and developed a plan that works for me and my pocketbook.
Every single person was first-class. Now I feel like they are my team - And I like that.

I was looking for a dental office that was close to my work and this one came in the top 3.
Reviews were great and now I understand why: I love how the Dr Shelyan takes the time to:
- answer your questions
- show you how to do things properly and why to do them
- make sure you're comfortable / okay / not in pain
- explain you in details your situation
- get to know you and your habits better
On top of that, his Assistant Parisla, as well as the Receptionist Carla and the Office Manager Sarit are really great women.
Everyone there really makes your feel comfortable and you can talk to them very openly.
I scheduled an appointment for my husband quickly after mine and he had a very positive experience as well.

I am a very big fan of Dr. Shelyan and his entire staff at Forever Smile. Everyone is so friendly, informative, and they make you feel really comfortable. I'm from out of town so I was worried about finding a good dentist but I can confidently say that I will definitely be coming to them for all of my dental needs and referring my friends to them as well. Everyone in the office is wonderful and genuinely care about their patients!

Tried to upcharge me to a pricey deep cleaning and a host of other expenses... Even if I needed all of them (I've never had a cavity before, though it's been two years since my last dentist appt), I walked in to get a free cleaning and left feeling pressured to spend A LOT of money worth of dental work. Don't have a good feeling about them, not returning.

Very friendly staff. They were professional and very thorough in regards to explaining billing and insurance coverage, and were upfront about all costs, which I appreciate. They also were very helpful in working out the best plan of attack for all my dental work, while staying within my budget. Dr. Sheylan is an excellent and talented dentist who made me feel at ease and comfortable. I originally had another Dentist scheduled for today but they called to cancel my appointment. I couldn't wait another day so I frantically looked for another dentist. The distance from where I lived mattered a little but what was more important was the reviews they had and how may they had. I luckily came across Dr Shelyan's profile here on ZocDoc and to my surprise he had availability for the morning I had to come in... That was less than a 12 hour notice. When I came in, Sarit, his office manager I assume, was incredibly welcoming and very pleasant to deal with. It was my first time using my new insurance so she even explained the details of my plan to me in better than my insurance company did! She was very informative and I appreciated that she took the time to run everything by me and in such detail. I couldn't be happier with my first experience at this office and I'm actually looking forward to my next dentist appointment.

Dr. Shelyan was very informative about all the work I needed. He answered all of my questions patiently. He offered me oral conscious sedation which was great for the amount of work I needed. The office worked so nicely with me for appointment times & financing.
