Dr. Chang was professional and answered all my questions on potential wisom tooth removal. I would go again for a regular dental check up and cleaning.

I’ve seen Dr. Chang several times and his bedside manner has always been very to the point, not particularly warm, but acceptable given dental conversations aren’t typically very sensitive. During this recent visit, however, I had a very disappointingexperience. I was confused about my new insurance when I arrived and accidentally provided incorrect information (all of my coverage - excluding my dental - changed carriers this year, and I provided the new carrier info not realizing dental had stayed the same). Of course I didn’t want to inconvenience the doctor, but also didn’t feel like it was so out of the ordinary for a patient to experience confusion about insurance. The doctor told me I was “making his life difficult” by not providing correct insurance info. He also told me I was “lucky” that the insurance customer service was accommodating enough to help figure out my correct insurance carrier and that I should “talk to my HR department” next time to be more clear about my insurance plans before my appointment. I felt like I was being disciplined by a parent as I sat in the chair ... very patronizing. It seemed that the rest of the appointment was impacted by this initial inconvenience. When I mentioned having tooth sensitivity to the doctor, he responded “why?” What a strange response from a doctor when a patient raises a concern... I suggested perhaps it was a cavity and he responded, “you were here 5 months ago. Cavities don’t happen that quickly.” As though I was supposed to know this? He determined the sensitivity was caused by something else and said, “I can’t help you with that.” He later went on to recommend a type of specialist I could see. After this, I felt like he rushed through the rest of the appointment. Not sure if perhaps the doctor was having a bad day, and for that reason I hesitate to post a negative review like this, but I found the experience concerning and unprofessional. I won’t be visiting this doctor again.

Dr. Chang was very nice. I filled out a quick form and he promptly took me back to be seen. His exam was thorough and he was mindful of drips and splatters during the exam. He explained my x-rays and madesmall talk. My only suggestion is that he speak more loud and clear.

Michael was very nice, east to talk to, sensitive to touch, cleaning was great and he was honest about work that I am looking to have done and instead of being pushy he let me know it wasn't necessary but it'ssomething thats up to me. I have had dentists in the past that jump right into telling me what to do and aggressive to start work. I will be back to see him for sure!

I've been seeing Dr. Chang for approximately 20 years. He runs a very efficient office that is clean and has interesting art on the walls that he, himself, has chosen. Dr. Chang always greets me with a smile and asks howmy husband is doing. During this visit he took Xrays, which he reviewed with me and discussed the current status of my teeth, gums and jaw bones. Dr. Chang cleaned my teeth. Regarding costs of procedures, he is absolutely transparent about procedure costs what the insurance co-pay and coverage will be and accurately determine your out-off pocket cost. David W.

Dr. Chang is the best dentist I have ever had. I never have to wait to see him, he is always very kind, he is so efficient that I have never had an appointment longer than 20 minutes, and he goesout of his way to make me feel comfortable for the visit. I honestly don't understand why more dentists don't operate like Dr. Chang does.

Dr. Chang worked really quickly and carefully. I have sometimes experienced a little bleeding or soreness after visiting other dentists, but not this time! He did all of the cleaning, x-rays, and examination himself, which I appreciate aswell. Doesn't talk much, which is great. I don't know why some dentists think they can have a conversation while their patients' mouths are propped wide open (lol).

Dr. Chang seems to have changed as he becomes more successful. Some years ago he was my primary dentist when he was just beginning his practice. This time, I felt a negative reaction the minute I entered his office and itwent downhill from there. I am not complaining that the services I wanted could not be performed by him but the manner in which he communicated with me was unacceptable. He need not worry about me returning to his office.

Dr. Chang is fast and efficient and not one for much talking. He doesn't like to explain what's going on, he doesn't seem to have much patience for his patients either who ask questions. The entire cleaning was completely silent. Andwhen he did talk to me, it was with a condescending and patronizing tone. Props to his lovely assistant though who tried to make me comfortable.

I really hate going to the dentist - so much that I tend to wait far too long between appointments. I loved everything about Dr. Chang's office. His assistant is the sweetest lady, so nice and thoughtful! Dr. Chang only slightlyshamed me for waiting 5+ years since my last appointment (i deserved it!) and his calm demeanor really helped stopped me from panicking in the chair. He took the time to show me my x-rays and take a mirror and show me in my actual mouth where my cavities were. During the cleaning they used a topical numbing agent and there was no pain at all. I never felt like they were trying to get me to pay for something I didn't need - a totally new experience from my past! I went back a few days later for a filling and it was the first time I haven't had excruciating pain during an appointment - from either the Novocain shots or the actual procedure. I'll definitely be back for another cleaning in 6 months now that I've found a dentist I can trust.

To start, I've been a patient of Michael Chang for several years. His office was around the corner from my apt when I was living in the East Village. I recently got new insurance and called the office to check tomake sure they take it. The receptionist told me she would check and call me back. She never did. So a few days later, I called back to check in and she said "Oh yeah you aren't coming up in the system. I don't know. Check with your insurance company." Ok fine. Unhelpful, but fine. Checked with the insurance company and they said I was all set. Instead of calling the doctors office back directly - I booked my appt through ZocDoc. I submitted my insurance information (exactly what the insurance rep told me to submit - word for word - so there wouldn't be any confusion) as a comment on the ZocDoc booking request, knowing that the office had all of my contact information and what I assumed was all of the information they would need from me. This was on November 1st. I arranged my work schedule for November 9th (today) for an appt at 11:15am. So when I get to the office, the (extremely rude and dismissive) receptionist asks me for my fiance's name and DOB because she needed to check my insurance coverage. I was confused as to why she's asking me for this now instead of a week+ in advance when I initially booked with the appt with all of my information (so that if there were any issues, they could contact me). She made a 2 minute phone call to the insurance company as I sat in the waiting room and looked at me and shrugged her shoulders and said "Sorry you aren't covered". My response was A) Confused as to how I am not listed as covered on the insurance policy B) Confused and frustrated that instead of checking IN ADVANCE that the insurance was all set, she allows me to book the appt and show up in person to then tell me to leave C) SHOCKED at the apathetic tone and overall rudeness of the receptionist. I was like ok I'm not sure what's wrong with the insurance but why are you checking on this now instead of waiting until I'm sitting in your office. She sighs - well I didn't have all of the information I needed. To which I respond - don't you have all of my contact information? Then she gives me a blank stare and blames me for the issue. WOW. Michael Chang never came out to speak to me, but the office is the size of a studio apt so I'm pretty sure he heard the entire conversation and didn't care enough to intervene. Like I said, I've been going to Michael Chang for a few years. Is he the best dentist in the world? No - but he's fine to go to for routine cleanings. I've recommended 2 friends to him and neither returned after their first visit. Why did I go back? Because it's always easy to book an appt with him and I'm usually in and out in 30 mins or less. I will NEVER return to his office after this experience and unless you want to deal with his self righteous, useless receptionist, I suggest you don't either.

I went in for my first cleaning/dentist visit in over a year, and they were very thorough in checking my teeth. They gave me a full set of x-rays (after ensuring it was covered by my dental insurance), and gave aquick but thorough cleaning. Dr. Chang noticed a shallow cavity was starting to develop, but he didn't push me to get it filled ASAP. He said to watch it, but with good maintenance I could keep it at bay. I appreciated him saying that because it showed me he was conscious of my time and money. He is personable, and I will be returning in 6 months time for my next cleaning!
