About Dr. Michael Shaffer
Dr. Michael Shaffer graduated from the University of Buffalo summa cum laude. He continued his education, receiving his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from SUNY at Stony Brook, School of Dental Medicine in 2012. As a dental student, Dr. Shaffer served on the admissions committee for prospective students. After dental school, Dr. Shaffer completed a one-year General Practice Residency at Stony Brook and an additional year of training to provide IV sedation for dental procedures.
With Dr. Shaffer's training, he is well-versed in treating phobic patients, children, adults, and those with special needs. His further education and training in Invisalign®, sedation, surgery and pediatrics allow him to deliver all phases of care to his patients. As a member of the American Dental Association and the local dental society, he continues to keep abreast the new technology and innovations in the field.
Dr. Shaffer was raised on Long Island and resides in Great Neck with his wife, son and daughter. He enjoys cycling, traveling, reading and spending time with friends and family.

Let me tell you, coming from a person who has been dealing with dentist all her life, I have never met some like Dr. Shaffer! He sat there and listened to me & explained everything to me. I felt so comfortable and understood all my concerns within my mouth. You can tell from the first five minutes that he cares so much about you & the health of your teeth. The entire office staff was wonderful & the front desk manager who also did my x-rays was phenomenal. I wont go anywhere else after visiting this office!!!

First appointment was great. Doctor took full set of x-rays (“whether insurance pays for it or not”) and gave me a VERY thorough cleaning (long overdue). Follow up in four weeks to see how the questionable areas look after cleaning. He explained everything he saw on the x-rays and what he thinks may need to be done in the future. Glad he’s not pushing me into anything that may turn out to be unnecessary. Couldn’t be happier with my new dentist!

Our family have been Dr Shaffer's patients for over 2 years now. He is an excellent dentist and his staff are just as professional and friendly. All of the appointments have been on-time. His office has all the modern equipment necessary and is conveniently located close to Merrick LIRR station and there is plenty of parking at the back of the building.

I saw Dr Shaffer a few times when he worked for another dental office years ago and always admired his honesty and how he didn’t rush to do unnecessary costly dental work. I just recently found out about his office and his values as a dentist hasn’t changed and he is all about the patient and their dental care. Everyone in his office was very friendly as well which is another plus. I would highly recommend!!
