About Dr. Nina Kumar
Dr. Kumar earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from New York University College of Dentistry and completed a residency in General Practice at Long Island College Hospital in Brooklyn, which involved a full year of intensive training. This comprehensive education and training have made her a well-rounded and knowledgeable clinician with experience in all dental specialties.
We are excited to have taken our practice to the New York Smile Institute. Dr. Kumar now has the opportunity to work alongside her mentor, Dr. Dean Vafiadis, along with other talented and extraordinary dentists! We have access to the newest technologies and techniques, the ability to implement novel ideas, and an overall elevation of the care we provide you. Of course, our priority will—and has always been—to be a true advocate for your oral health!

There were many signs that arose during my visits I should've listened to, but I refused and kept trying to give Dr. Kumar and her office another chance.
- The earliest issue was being burned on my skin during a routine fill-in
- Changing of office locations frequently over a few years
- Moving to its most recent location on 5th Ave with ZERO notification via email, call, text (I checked multiple times)
- Changing of her booking system which caused the office to be double booked a few times causing me to change my appointment a week out from scheduled
- Being told and hearing her preach to other patients they need veneers or some other extensive dental work procedures; (this should never be dentist led unless a patient raises the issue for cosmetic procedures); this does not surprise me as the office was closed for over 8 months and probably in troubles
- Came in for 3D scanning; had a virtual appointment scheduled that was canceled within the hour of meeting; I as the patient reach out 3 separate times weeks after to schedule a follow-up to hear nothing; didn't hear back from the office till 4 months after when they saw I was do for a check-up.
I hope others do not have the same experiences, but I wanted to be honest and truthful about my experiences when I probably should not have given the benefit of the doubt.
Note: I came in different times after this appointment, but this was the last appt booked with ZocDoc

Great experience!. Went in as a 1st time patient and felt like I was in and out. Dental hygienist was friendly and explained everything before she did it. Dr. Kumar was genuine and professional. And receptionist was fast and friendly. Definitely recommend.

Another great cleaning. I have never been a fan of flossing, and Dr. Kumar suggested that I try using the Sonicare Airfloss as an alternative. Great suggestion! I use it almost daily.

Not only was I seated the minute I arrived to the office, but the office staff was extremely polite and efficient in preparation of the visit. As someone who has had bad experiences with dentists, I am quite picky. Dr. Kumar went above and beyond all of my expectations!!. Her knowledge and expertise coupled with warm demeanor and patience made the experience easy, comfortable, and very quick! I have already scheduled my next appointment with her! Highly recommend!

I am impressed with my experience with Dr. Kumar. She was prompt in seeing me, and greeted me with a warm welcome.
Something I appreciated was how she was able to break down the procedure step by step. She was able to properly communicate what was happening in a patient and professional manner- it made me feel like I was good hands.
Her staff were super friendly and personable.
I haven't felt this comfortable in a doctors chair/office; she is someone I would absolutely recommend.

Dr. Kumar reviewed my Xrays without any greeting and then said that she needed to "take a look." It's an offputting start, because I didn't know if there was bad news.
I don't know what scraping tools she uses, but it was the most painful I've ever experienced. She got water down my neck onto my shirt and teeth polish all over my cheeks and ear.
The Xray machine also seemed old. I've only ever had the thin inserts, and this was a machine that I practically gagged on for Xrays.
I have never had a dental appointment like this, and I cannot recommend her!
