About Dr. Raya Abu-Zahra

Dr. Raya is a Board-certified Pediatric Dentist. She is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. She grew up in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan, and went on to earn her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry in 2014. She then completed her residency in Pediatric Dentistry at the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin in 2016. During her first few years after residency, she practiced in New York City. Her time spent in both Queens and Manhattan sparked her interest in health policy and understanding how to make effective changes in health care systems. This led her to pursue a Postdoctoral Oral Health fellowship at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, which she completed in 2020. She has also served as Adjunct Faculty to dental students and pediatric dental residents at New York University’s College of Dentistry. She is dedicated to providing the highest quality dentistry to each child in a positive and nurturing environment. While in dental school, she served as chapter president of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, Chair of Give Kids a Smile, completed 2 pediatric focused dental mission trips to Guatemala, and volunteered many hours treating underserved populations. These experiences, along with her passion to work with children, fueled her passion for pediatric dental care. During her residency, she received extensive training in behavior management, use of nitrous oxide, sedation dentistry, and treatment of patients with special needs. She resides in the western suburbs of Chicago with her husband and children, and is happy to be part of a vibrant and welcoming community.
