Dr. William Bast demonstrated an early commitment to dentistry, earning acceptance into dental school while still a senior in high school. He completed the prestigious Adelphi University/Tufts University seven-year joint dental program, matriculating to Tufts University School of Dental Medicine after only three years of undergraduate study at Adelphi University. He received his Bachelor of Science in Biology following his first year at Tufts and earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree in 1993. Upon graduation, Dr. Bast was the sole recipient of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinical Proficiency Award, recognizing outstanding clinical excellence in his graduating class. He completed his residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 1998 through a comprehensive hospital-based training program. His extensive surgical training included rotations in general surgery, plastic surgery, anesthesiology, internal medicine, pediatrics, emergency medicine, and critical care. The residency was affiliated with several renowned New York institutions, including Metropolitan Hospital Center, St. Vincent's Hospital Manhattan, and Westchester Medical Center. Since 1998, Dr. Bast has been in private practice serving patients throughout the New York metropolitan area and Long Island. He also serves as a facial trauma surgeon at Stony Brook University Medical Center, where he provides advanced surgical care while mentoring residents and dental students. Dr. Bast is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine. He is actively involved in the education of dental students and residents and frequently lectures on a broad range of topics, including dental implants, bone grafting, corrective jaw surgery, reconstructive surgery, oral pathology, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders, office-based anesthesia, and complex tooth extractions, including wisdom teeth.
