About Dr. Youngjae Sung
I'm a board-certified orthodontist with the American Board of Orthodontics, and helping patients feel confident with their smiles is important to me. I was born in Seoul, South Korea, and grew up in Boston, Massachusetts. I attended New York University for my undergraduate studies, and from there, I moved across the country to earn my Doctorate of Dental Surgery (DDS) at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
My growing fascination for aligning teeth and jaws led me to the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC), where I completed my studies for my Orthodontics Certificate and Master of Science (MS). Now, I'm thrilled to be part of the NYC Orthodontics team and continue doing what I love!
Throughout my education, I developed a huge appreciation for research, both current and historical. I've participated in several projects throughout my education, which led me to present my studies internationally at the AADR (American Association of Dental Research), as well as at AAO (American Association of Orthodontists) for my thesis on the genetic factors that influence jaw and tooth development. I understand that the current landscape of orthodontics can be quite confusing, and I'm committed to making sure that you understand and are happy with every step of your treatment plan.
On that note, I really do believe that patient education is a huge part of great orthodontic care. Giving back to the community has also been important to me. From teaching dental hygiene to elementary school students across Los Angeles to leading health education workshops for New York City high schoolers, I have extensive experience with breaking down complex dental topics to a wide range of ages and backgrounds.
As someone who wore braces for five years myself, I can really empathize with what orthodontic patients are going through. I'm always happy to answer questions, share advice, and help you feel confident about your treatment journey.

We booked an open appointment when it was available. We called ahead to confirm, and the answering service picked up the call where we left a message. When we showed up, the building and office was closed. We tried calling again and still was the answering service. Never saw the doctor and no call back. Wasted an entire afternoon getting there to a closed office and no doctor and no communication!!!!!
