About Dr. Dimitri Kessaris

Dr. Dimitri N. Kessaris is the Medical Director at Progressive Urology which has multiple locations throughout Long Island and Queens, including Manhasset, Forest Hills and Astoria. He is board certified by the American Board of Urology. Hospital affiliations include: North Shore University Hospital at Manhasset, Winthrop University Hospital, New York Hospital Queens and Long Island Jewish Medical Center.
He is also a member of professional organizations including the American Urological Association, the Hellenic Medical Society, and the Medical Society of the County of Queens.
Dr. Kessaris received his Bachelors of Arts in Chemistry at New York University and Medical degree from Stony Brook University Medical School. He did his general surgery and urology residency training at Long Island Jewish Medical Center.
Dr. Kessaris and his staff provide a full range of urologic care, including diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer, enlarged prostate, low testosterone, erectile dysfunction, urinary incontinence, urinary tract infections, kidney stones, and bladder cancer. We stay up-to-date on the latest medical technology including Cyberknife treatment for Prostate Cancer, Cool Wave Microwave Thermotherapy, Green Light Laser, Robotic surgery, ESWL treatment for Kidney Stones and No-Scalpel Vasectomies. Most urologic procedures can be performed in the comfort and safety of our office-based surgery facility.
Progressive Urology accepts most major insurance plans & Medicare. Progressive Urology provides patients with AAAASF Certified Office Based Surgery Facility and Certified Pathology with an onsite Board Certified Pathologist. This includes Cytology, Biopsy, Florescent Insitu Hybridization or FISH and Urinary Cultures.

The doctor never saw me. I sat for two hours and was never seen for an appointment. I had to leave. They could not even locate my appointment in their system. There's a reason he has below a 4.8 rating on Zocdoc. It's because this is the most inefficient doctor's office you will ever visit. If you really want medical care, find a doctor who might actually be able to see you.

Dr. Kessaris is great and his bedside manner is very professional. He was quick to diagnose my issue and prescribe a treatment plan. When it turned out the first treatment plan wasn't working too well, I called him back and he immediately put me on another medication that is working quite well.
The staff at the front desk are friendly and polite, and I haven't had to wait past my appointment start time yet. In fact, I've gone in early both times!

The office was fairly efficient and once I was called, the tests and procedures went fairly well. Seeing the doctor 15 min, after the tests/scans were completed. The only real issue I had was that they did not have my pre-exam medical history survey that I had filled online. I'm not sure what went wrong but it's annoying to submit your entire medical history online and then have to do it again on paper in the office.

Horrible. The receptionists named Loraina was so rude and impolite! She had an attitude and provided bad customer service. I didn't like how she was talking in a condescending manner to another patient. Wait time was long. Plus the doctor was not thorough and rushed my appointment. Not worth my time. Just would not recommend.

I waited over 2 hours to get a test done by a nurse that took 5 minutes and was then sent back out into the waiting room to wait another half an hour to actually speak with Dr. Kessaris. He then spent less than 2 minutes with me. Terrible experience.

I am a student in grad school for a health profession and I often use Zocdoc to make doctor appointments. First thing I want to say is how FALSE and INACCURATE most of the other reviews are. The office I went to see Dimitri Kessari was called Progressive Urology in Manhasset. My first initial evaluation with him lasted literally two minutes. My wait time was almost one hour long. After the medical assistant took my vitals, she told me to get undressed from waist down and cover myself with a white sheet. I waited another half hour to 40 minutes on the treatment table for this "doctor." He finally came in and greeted me, all he did was check off some tests he was going to order for me. He did not ask any questions about my history, family medical history, pain or discomfort at the time, or simply how I am feeling. How can a doctor possibly do 2 minute initial consultations?! I have seen many doctors who lack the compassion and care for their patients, and Dimitri is definitely one on my list of incompetent doctors. He scheduled 3 quick tests, each on separate days. This shows that he is greedy and wanted to charge my insurance for no reason. Dimitri only performed one of the exams on my and it was a cystoscopy (sticking a hollow tube with camera lens up the urethra). The nurses prepped me and they were very kind. They told me he would apply local anesthetic before performing the exam. He rushed in the room right off the bat saying "this will only take a minute." He did not apply anesthetic AT ALL and caused me to be in pain for 3 days. Can you just imagine this procedure done on a female without applying anesthetic? I could not fathom how he did not think he needed to use anesthetic on me. He did not explain the procedure nor did he ask me if I wanted anesthetic, which every doctor should do. Dimitri discussed my results with me in less than 3 minutes, without offering any solutions. He stated the results as it was and used my age (20s) as a reason why everything is okay. I was told to go back to see him in 4 weeks, but that will not happen. Never again.
