“I was a bit skeptical of seeing a therapist, and struggle to find one for over a year because there wasn’t enough reviews online to really narrow it down to one person. I really enjoyed speaking with Candace, and I felt heard and understood. She made sure I was able to get out everything I needed to say even if we ran over time a little bit. She’s a really great listener as well. ”

Getting to know Dr. Candace Hargett

Do you worry all the time? Constantly criticize yourself? Do you find yourself expecting the worst frequently? Anxiety is intended as a warning system to show that a situation could be harmful. However, chronic anxiety overstimulates your body and mind and dysregulates your body's homeostasis. Anxiety, worry, and stress limit how you show up in life. Past traumas and attachment hurts can get triggered, leading to conditioned patterns and self-defeating habits. Awareness of these patterns is the most powerful tool to enact change. I am Dr. Candace Hargett, a licensed psychologist in Texas with over 20 years of experience. I earned my PhD in Psychology from the University of North Texas. I specialize in anxiety, trauma, grief, chronic medical illnesses, and relationship work. I also enjoy working with depression, bipolar disorder, marriage counseling, personal growth, and resiliency. My therapy approach incorporates cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, biofeedback, exposure therapy, cognitive processing therapy, EMDR, dialectical behavioral therapy, and motivational interviewing. My greatest privilege is helping people who have experienced traumatic or stressful experiences—including military veterans, sexual abuse and physical abuse survivors, and those with complex PTSD—to find healthy perceptions of themselves, the world, and their relationships. Choosing to seek treatment, be vulnerable, and make changes takes an enormous amount of courage. As a clinical psychologist, I am continually amazed by the courage and resilience of those I have had the privilege to work with. I value collaboration, transparency, and honesty in the therapeutic relationship. My approach is mind-body with an emphasis on self-care. My highest honor is to help clients work through traumas and past hurts and move toward a more fulfilled and happier life. If you are ready to change, please contact me to schedule your first session.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.

I appreciated Dr. Hargett's request for background info before the session. I used that opportunity to provide details that would have been hard to cover in a single hour. She established rapport right away, patiently listened to and validated me, and I felt she understood my current point of view and how we might take next steps to get me to a more balanced mindset/life.
