Adult Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
TX
Hi, I’m Abidemi “Abby” Adewoyin, and I’m so glad you’re here. I’m a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC), and I specialize in helping people improve their mental health through thoughtful, evidence-based medication management. My role is to evaluate, diagnose, and prescribe when appropriate, so you can get the right treatment for your needs. Starting psychiatric medication—or even considering it—can feel overwhelming. My job is to make the process easier, clearer, and more comfortable. During our appointments, we’ll talk openly about your symptoms, your goals, and how medication might help. I’ll explain every option in plain language, answer your questions, and partner with you to make decisions that feel right. I treat a wide range of mental health concerns, including depression, anxiety disorders (generalized, social, and panic), ADHD, bipolar disorder, trauma- and stressor-related conditions, PTSD, and other mood and behavioral health disorders. I also help patients who have tried multiple medications without success, focusing on finding the most effective treatment with the fewest side effects. I care deeply about making mental health care accessible and inclusive. I have a special passion for serving underserved and marginalized communities, including Black, Brown, LGBTQ+, and immigrant patients, who often face stigma or limited access to care. My practice is culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and welcoming to all. What you can expect: warmth, respect, and no judgment. Our visits are private, supportive, and focused entirely on helping you feel better. You deserve to feel stable, clear-headed, and hopeful again—and I’d be honored to be part of your journey. If you’re ready to explore whether medication might help you feel more like yourself, let’s talk. Together, we’ll create a plan that fits your life and moves you toward the balance and peace you deserve.

What should a new client know about working with you?

When you meet with me, my priority is to make you feel comfortable, respected, and fully heard. My role as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner is to focus on medication management—evaluating your symptoms, providing a clear diagnosis when appropriate, and helping you find medications that are effective, safe, and tailored to your unique needs. I don’t provide formal therapy, but I take time to listen and partner with you, and I often collaborate with therapists or other providers to ensure you’re getting well-rounded care. At your first appointment, we’ll spend time talking about your mental health history, current concerns, and goals. I’ll explain all medication options in plain, straightforward language—what they do, potential side effects, and what to expect—so you can make informed decisions. Follow-up visits are shorter, focused on how you’re responding to treatment, and adjusting things as needed. My approach is collaborative and culturally responsive. I respect your values, background, and preferences, and I will never rush or pressure you. Many of my patients tell me they feel relieved after our first session because they finally feel heard and understood. If you’re ready to explore how medication can help you feel more balanced, focused, and hopeful, I’ll be here to guide you every step of the way.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My process is thorough, collaborative, and focused on helping you feel better as quickly and safely as possible. As a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, I primarily provide psychiatric evaluations and medication management, not formal talk therapy. However, I believe listening and understanding your story is just as important as prescribing medication. At your first visit, we’ll spend about 60 minutes discussing your mental health history, symptoms, lifestyle, and goals. I may ask about your medical background, past treatments, and family history to get a full picture. Once I understand your needs, I’ll explain any relevant diagnoses and discuss medication options in detail—how they work, possible side effects, and what kind of results you can expect. Together, we’ll decide on a treatment plan that feels right for you. Follow-up appointments are typically shorter (about 30 minutes) and focus on checking your progress, adjusting medications if needed, and addressing any concerns. I encourage questions and feedback because I want you to feel informed and confident about your care. My goal is to make this a team effort, where you feel heard, respected, and empowered to take an active role in your mental health.
