About Abigail Turpen

Abby Turpen (she/her), MS, RD, LDN is a registered dietitian nutritionist passionate about empowering clients to repair their relationships with food, movement, and their bodies. She specializes in working with clients struggling with disordered eating and has experience counseling pediatric, adolescent, and adult clients. Abby uses an empathetic, Health at Every Size (HAES), and non-diet approach to nutrition counseling. She helps clients to identify behaviors they would like to change while building trust and care for their bodies. Abby aims to create an inclusive, supportive, and compassionate space for clients to challenge previously held patterns. She enjoys getting to know her clients on a deep level to support them in making personalized changes. Together, she and her clients explore how food can support their vision of health and the life they want to live. Abby was motivated to become a dietitian to help clients with their eating habits after working through her own struggles as a picky eater early in life and seeing the positive impacts of repairing her difficult relationship with food as a young adult. She earned her Master of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics from Virginia Tech. As a registered dietitian, Abby has enjoyed working in both inpatient and outpatient settings with adults and children at Carilion Clinic in Roanoke, Virginia. Her work with pediatric and adolescent patients covered chronic disease management, eating disorders, picky eating, and general lifestyle and nutrition changes. Most recently, she worked at a local eating disorder treatment center with adults in the residential, partial hospital, and intensive outpatient settings.
