“It was a very pleasant appointment, Dr Akanji was very attentive, I would say she give patients a lot of options, which has its ups and downs if you are just wanting to walk in and get her to give you something that’s not happening, you’ll have a talk about your needs and then she will ask you what you want to do and what she can do for you”

Getting to know Dr. Abimbola Akanji

As a board-certified psychiatrist in both Adult Psychiatry and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, I am deeply committed to supporting mental health across the lifespan. I completed my residency in Adult Psychiatry at the University of Maryland Medical Center, followed by a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Johns Hopkins Hospital. I also hold certification from the Specialist Training Authority of the Medical Royal Colleges in the UK as a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist. With extensive experience in treating a wide range of mental health conditions, I believe in a compassionate, individualized approach to care. My treatment philosophy is grounded in the bio-psychosocial model, recognizing that mental well-being is shaped by biological, emotional, social, and environmental factors. I partner with patients and their families to provide evidence-based care that is tailored to each individual’s needs and goals. I treat conditions that commonly emerge in childhood or affect emotional health in adulthood, including depression, anxiety, trauma-related disorders, ADHD, and bipolar disorder. My goal is to help each patient build a healthier, more balanced life, and to feel supported and empowered every step of the way.

She was rude

Was sent a meeting link by zocdoc, which I joined five minutes before my appointment time. I waited for fifteen minutes, with no way of communicating. I was then sent a “reminder” link from a service that she uses that contained a different meeting link. I then joined that one, waited another five minutes, and was joined by someone that was not the provider. This person said that the provider would not see me because I was late to the appointment. I then explained that I was in fact waiting in a virtual waiting room that was set up by the system I went through to make the appointment, and wasn’t sent the correct link until after I would’ve already been late. She continued to say that the doctor would NOT see me and that I needed to make an appointment with a different doctor because I would no longer be accepted as a patient. I really needed this appointment to straighten out my medication situation, but as I wasn’t even able to communicate with the provider, I guess I’m out of luck.
