Abner Hollow, AMFT

Marriage and Family Therapist
25 E Washington St, Ste 1021, Chicago, IL
Abner is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist who works with individuals, couples, and intimate partnerships. His clinical interests include relationship and sexuality concerns, men’s issues, desire discrepancy, sexual dysfunction, sexual shame, out-of-control sexual behavior, kink/BDSM exploration, polyamory and consensual non-monogamy, queer identity, religious trauma, existential concerns, atheism/non-spirituality, and supporting neurodivergent and intellectually gifted clients. Abner is sex-positive and affirming of kink/BDSM, queer identities, age-gap relationships, consensual non-monogamy, and sex work. Drawing from both meaningful lived experience and specialized training, he strives to create a therapeutic space where clients' sexuality and relationships are understood as complex, meaningful parts of their lives—not problems to be fixed. Abner approaches therapy as a collaborative process of developing new ways of living and relating when old patterns no longer serve. He centers clients' voices and experiences while facilitating emotional processing, alternative perspectives, and insight-oriented exploration. Drawing from Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), existential therapy, and experiential modalities, he blends nonjudgmental compassion with thoughtful challenge to support healing, intimacy, and relational growth. His style is grounded, direct, and experiential, helping clients deconstruct recurring patterns, process what has been avoided, and build relationships and ways of living that feel authentic, intentional, and sustainable. Abner is especially attuned to the emotional complexities of modern relationships—from dating fatigue and intimacy concerns to long-term partnership struggles—and believes therapy can meaningfully ease the difficult and often confusing experience of being human. Abner is currently pursuing his Master’s degree in Couple and Family Therapy at Adler University and has completed Adler’s Certificate in Sex Therapy. He holds

What should a new client know about working with you?

I work with partners and individuals on intimacy concerns, out-of-control sexual behavior, non-monogamy exploration, kink/BDSM exploration, nihilism/existential dread, and religious trauma. My approach is sex-positive, queer/kink/age-gap/sex-work affirming. Together we focus on emotional processing, attunement, and relational structures which work.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Whether you’re exploring non-monogamy/polyamory, BDSM/kink, queer identity, sex work, or feeling stuck in desire discrepancy or sexual shame, you deserve nuanced, empowering support. Therapy with me is provocative and experiential. We deconstruct the patterns that keep repeating, process what has been avoided, and develop new ways of relating that feel authentic and intentional. Reaching out can feel vulnerable. If you're ready to move from confusion or disconnection toward clarity and agency, I look forward to working with you. I bring both lived experience and formal training (Adler University’s Sex Therapy Certificate) to this work. More importantly, I provide a grounded, direct, and affirming space where your sexuality and relationships are treated as complex, meaningful parts of your life, not problems to fix.
