Getting to know Abosede Haygood

I’m a board-certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner in private practice, specializing in ADHD, depression, substance abuse and addiction, anxiety, geriatric psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry, and trauma. I earned a Post-Master's Certificate in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing from Walden University. With a compassionate and personalized approach, I provide care tailored to the unique needs of each individual, recognizing that mental health is not one-size-fits-all. I work with clients of all ages, offering both medication management and therapy to help you find balance and well-being. Whether you're navigating the challenges of childhood and adolescence, managing anxiety and depression, or facing issues related to addiction and trauma, I'm here to guide and support you every step of the way. My goal is to create a safe and supportive environment where you feel heard, understood, and empowered to take charge of your mental health. Together, we’ll work towards your personal goals, helping you build resilience, cope with stress, and improve your overall quality of life.

What should a new client know about working with you?

As a new client, it's helpful for you to know what to expect when working with me as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. Here’s what I emphasize in my practice: Holistic Approach: I treat you as a whole person, not just your symptoms. Mental health care involves understanding your physical, emotional, and social well-being. Together, we’ll explore how different aspects of your life impact your mental health. Patient-Centered Care: Your treatment is individualized. I listen to your concerns, respect your goals, and collaborate with you to create a care plan that aligns with your unique needs and preferences. Your voice matters in shaping your care. Medication and Therapy: I am trained in both medication management and therapeutic interventions, allowing me to offer an integrative approach. Whether you're seeking medications, therapy, or both, we'll discuss the best options for your situation and adjust as needed. Collaboration and Communication: Our relationship is a partnership. I encourage open, honest communication, and I’m here to answer any questions or concerns you have throughout your journey. Confidentiality and Trust: I provide a safe, confidential space where you can openly express yourself without judgment. Building trust is fundamental to our work together. Ongoing Support: Mental health care is an ongoing process, and I’m committed to being a source of continuous support. We’ll regularly review your progress and make adjustments as needed to ensure you’re moving toward your goals.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My Typical Process for Working with Clients Initial Consultation: Our first session is about getting to know you and understanding your concerns. We’ll discuss your mental health history, current symptoms, and any factors in your life that may be affecting your well-being. This is a collaborative session where I gather a comprehensive picture of your needs and goals, and you can ask any questions about the treatment process. Assessment and Diagnosis: Based on the initial consultation and additional assessments, if necessary, I will provide a clear diagnosis or further evaluate your concerns. This helps guide our treatment plan, whether it involves medication, therapy, or a combination of both. Treatment Planning: Together, we’ll develop a personalized treatment plan. This plan will be based on evidence-based practices, and it may include medication management, therapy, lifestyle changes, or referrals for additional care when needed. I always ensure that you understand the options available and feel comfortable with the path forward. Medication Management (if applicable): If medication is recommended as part of your treatment, we’ll start with a thorough discussion about your options. I take the time to explain how medications work, potential side effects, and monitor your response closely to ensure the best outcomes. Adjustments are made as needed to optimize your care. Therapy and Support: Whether it’s cognitive-behavioral therapy, trauma-informed care, or supportive counseling, I provide therapeutic interventions that are tailored to your needs. These sessions are aimed at helping you develop coping strategies, process emotions, and work through challenges in a safe, supportive environment. Ongoing Monitoring and Adjustments: Mental health care is a dynamic process. We’ll regularly review your progress, check how you respond to treatment, and make necessary adjustments. My goal is to ensure your treatment remains effective and responsive to any changes
