Adult Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

Psychiatry shouldn’t feel like a 15-minute conversation followed by a prescription. I want to understand what’s actually getting in the way of your life—whether that’s struggling to focus at school, feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, having a difficult relationship with food, or simply not feeling like yourself—and then figure out together what might help. I’m a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner specializing in working with children, adolescents, and young adults, with particular experience in ADHD and eating disorders. I also work with anxiety, depression, OCD, emotional regulation difficulties, and other concerns that often overlap with these conditions. My approach is collaborative and practical. Medication can be an important part of treatment, but it isn’t the only tool we have. I spend time looking at sleep, nutrition, school or work, relationships, coping skills, therapy, and the environment around you. For younger patients, I also value working closely with parents and caregivers while making sure the child or teenager has a voice in their own treatment. I have extensive experience treating ADHD, including stimulant and non-stimulant medication management, executive functioning challenges, and navigating school accommodations such as 504 Plans and IEPs. I also have specialized experience treating eating disorders, including restrictive eating, anorexia nervosa, ARFID, binge eating, and the complicated relationship between mental health, medications, appetite, and body image. Most importantly, I want appointments to feel like a conversation. You should understand why I’m recommending something, feel comfortable asking questions, and have a say in the decisions we make. My goal isn’t simply to reduce symptoms—it’s to help you or your child function better, feel more confident, and get back to the things that make life feel meaningful.

What should a new client know about working with you?

You don’t need to have everything figured out before your first appointment. Come to the appointment, tell me what’s been going on, and we’ll work through it together. I’ll be upfront about what I think could help and why, and I want you to feel comfortable asking questions or telling me when something isn’t working. Treatment should feel like a partnership, not something being decided for you.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Your first appointment is really about getting the full picture. We’ll talk about what brought you in, what’s been difficult, what’s going well, and what you’d like help with. I’ll also ask about things like sleep, school or work, relationships, medical history, previous treatment, and anything else that may be affecting how you’re feeling. From there, we’ll put together a treatment plan that makes sense for you. That might include medication, therapy, coping or executive functioning skills, lifestyle changes, school supports, or coordinating with other members of your care team. I’ll explain my recommendations and the reasoning behind them, and you’ll always have a say in what we decide. For children and teens, I involve parents while also making sure the child has space to talk and feels included in their own care. Follow-up visits are about more than asking whether a medication is “working”, we’ll look at what has actually changed in everyday life and adjust the plan together.
