Dr. Adam Kawalek was born and raised in Montreal, Canada, speaks four languages, and is board-certified in Internal Medicine. After attending Brown University, Adam received his M.D. from The Mount Sinai School of Medicine and is currently working towards his Masters of Public Health from London University’s School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
Adam has rooted his professional career in treating under-served and uninsured populations throughout the U.S. Specifically, he has worked as a hospitalist and emergency physician in Northern California, Hawaii, and Alaska. Adam volunteered with disaster relief efforts in Haiti, India, Kenya, Liberia, and Gaza through Operation: Iron Dome. He is also an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at The David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, where he mentors second-year medical students in the Art and Science of Medicine.
Adam’s approach to medicine is based on mutual respect, support, and honesty. He believes in shared decision-making, meeting patients where they are emotionally and physically, and shepherding them along their life journey.
Dr. Adam also is involved in multiple projects in entertainment. For example, he serves as co-executive producer for Make Me Normal, and is the editor and host of docu-series Street Medicine. In his spare time, Adam manages his own urban farm and organic garden. He’s happily married, and his husband runs an LGBTQIA non-profit. Additionally, Dr. Adam is pescatarian, has practiced CrossFit for 5 years, and regularly enjoys yoga.
