Adam Mitchell, PMHNP

Adam Mitchell, PMHNP

Adult Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
KY
I am a psychiatric nurse practitioner who has worked both independently and in Community Health. My passion for caring for clients of all ages began while serving on active duty in the military, where I assisted a doctor in an aid clinic-an experience that inspired me to become a nurse. I have lived all over the country, including northern Alaska. I love dogs and camp as much as I can. Currently, I live in the greater Louisville area with my wife and our two daughters, ages 8 and 14. I earned my Master's in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing from Maryville University. As a nurse, my treatment focus was on adolescents with a variety of diagnoses in the mental health inpatient setting. I then became a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner working in the outpatient setting. I have experience treating patients ages 6 and up across the lifespan, including those with serious mental illnesses such as schizophrenia. My philosophy is to use medication only as needed and at the minimum effective dose to achieve results. Therapy is an integral and least invasive part of treatment and should be utilized as much as possible.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Mental illness can be hard to deal with and I hope to be a guide for you. After our first consultation, we will discuss the steps moving forward for your treatment plan as identified. I am able to prescribe medications if needed but you will understand what the medication goals are, what the side effects are, and why you are taking them. You will be educated on coping skills, medication plans, and therapy plans, and have a deeper understanding of what your specific mental health concerns are. --I do not prescribe benzodiazepines such as ativan, xanax, and Klonipine--

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
