Getting to know Adam Popp

Adam Popp is a prescribing clinician at Acheron Psychiatry who provides thoughtful, integrative mental health care for individuals navigating anxiety, mood disorders, stress-related conditions, and complex emotional challenges. His work is grounded in a holistic, biopsychosocial framework that considers the full context of a person’s life—biological, psychological, and relational. At Acheron, Adam practices within a depth-oriented model that values both symptom relief and deeper understanding. While he provides medication management when appropriate, he views each clinical encounter as an opportunity for meaningful therapeutic engagement. His approach integrates humanistic principles, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness-based strategies to support emotional flexibility, insight, and resilience. As part of Acheron Psychiatry, Adam collaborates within an interdisciplinary team offering psychotherapy, Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP), Cognitive Remediation Therapy, neuropsychological testing, group therapy, and experiential programs. This allows care to be tailored, cohesive, and responsive to each client’s evolving needs.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Working with Adam is collaborative, grounded, and paced with care. He prioritizes creating a space where clients feel heard, respected, and actively involved in their treatment decisions. Adam focuses on helping clients find relief from distressing symptoms while also exploring the underlying patterns contributing to their experience. Whether through medication management, therapeutic dialogue, or mindfulness-based tools, his goal is to support sustainable change rather than quick fixes alone. As part of Acheron Psychiatry, clients may also benefit from coordinated care that includes psychotherapy, ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP), cognitive and neuropsychological services, or group-based work when helpful. Adam values continuity, transparency, and flexibility, meeting each client where they are while supporting meaningful progress over time. At Acheron, all ketamine is prescribed, dosed, and medically monitored in-house by our psychiatrist and founder, Dr. Daniel Zimmerman (Yale, Weill Cornell, Harvard/MGH–McLean). This allows therapists like me to provide preparation, therapeutic support during dosing, and depth-oriented integration within a safe and cohesive clinical model.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Work with Adam Popp begins with a thoughtful, holistic assessment that considers biological, psychological, and social factors shaping a client’s experience. Together, you’ll clarify current symptoms, underlying contributors, and treatment goals—balancing immediate relief with deeper understanding. As a prescribing clinician, Adam views each appointment as both a medical and therapeutic encounter. Sessions may include medication management alongside meaningful therapeutic engagement, integrating humanistic principles, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness-based approaches when appropriate. As part of Acheron Psychiatry, Adam works within an interdisciplinary model that allows clients to access additional services such as psychotherapy, Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP), Cognitive Remediation Therapy, neuropsychological testing, group therapy, and experiential programs when clinically indicated. His approach emphasizes collaboration, continuity of care, and helping clients move toward greater stability, insight, and long-term wellbeing.
