Adekunbi Akins, NP

Adult Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
VA
Hi, my name is Adekunbi Akins. I am an experienced psychiatric and mental health provider serving Virginia. I graduated with my master's degree in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing from George Washington University. I have strong expertise in conducting thorough assessments, making diagnoses, and developing treatment plans for my clients. I also provide medication management services, educating my clients and prescribing medications that best address their mental health needs and lifestyles. I do this in conjunction with psychotherapy services. I serve school-age children starting from age 6, adolescents, and adults with ADHD, Autism, Depression, Bipolar disorders, Anxiety disorders, PTSD, and other life's stresses. Your psychiatric medications are chosen and managed carefully, keeping safety, effectiveness, and evidence-based practice in mind, and are often combined with therapies. As a practitioner, I have helped many individuals make sense of life. Many young people and adults suffer from ADHD, which affects their daily functioning and productivity. My clients have many options of stimulant and non-stimulant ADHD medications to choose from, and these medications have proven effective for many of them. I also prescribe medications and offer psychotherapy to address conditions like Generalized Anxiety Disorder, social anxiety, panic disorders, and different types of phobias. Depression hurts, and many people do not know that depression can be accompanied by unusual symptoms like anxiety, irritability, insomnia, appetite changes, and chronic or somatic pain. Choosing the right medication for your depression is very important and cannot be overemphasized. Whether my client struggles with mood disorders, interpersonal conflicts, difficulty regulating strong emotions, or anxiety issues, I have used proven psychotherapeutic approaches to help them start living a happy life again.
