Psychologist
WA
I was drawn to psychology from an early age. I can remember being in elementary school and other kids would come up to me to tell me about their problems. I also felt a strong calling to help those around me. That calling became more pronounced after my grandfather was diagnosed with lung cancer and the healthcare system failed him by treating him from a biomedical approach which had a devasting impact on his quality of life. Moreover, I have been fortunate enough to come from a family of physicians which helped me appreciate the importance of addressing physical components to heal the body and the mind. However, after my grandfather’s death due to cancer, I realized that there were many weaknesses in the medical approaches that only focus on medication and the specific body part that it’s ill. After all, the organs and the cells of our bodies are not working independently and are constantly communicating and interacting with each other. That’s when I recognized the need for integrative wholistic models for a person’s optimal healing and health. I decided to attend graduate school in Psychology and obtained a doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology with a major in Neuropsychology from Carlos Albizu University in Miami, FL in 2014. Ever since then, the primary clinical focus of my career has been health psychology with a focus on the management of pain as well as other chronic health conditions. Additionally, I have been privileged to treat and help clients suffering with various mental health disorders such as anxiety, depression, and trauma.
