Dr. Akaraphan Sukanthanag (pronouns: he/him/his) is a primary care physician and Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Originally from Los Angeles, he obtained his medical degree from Western University of Health Sciences in Los Angeles County, CA. He then completed his family medicine residency at Lewis Gale Medical Center in Roanoke, VA, where he was awarded a Humanism in Medicine award for demonstrating compassionate care for others. He is board-certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and is also an active member of the American Academy of Family Physicians.
Dr. Sukanthanag is committed to providing culturally competent care, and he speaks and provides care in English, Mandarin Chinese, and Cantonese Chinese. He also has working knowledge of Japanese. He advocates for patient-centered, holistic care and is passionate about preventative medicine and serving patients from diverse backgrounds. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling, calligraphy, taichi, meditation, and considers himself a cultural enthusiast.

I had an excellent experience with Dr. Akaraphan Sukanthanag and the entire staff. From the moment I walked in, the front desk was warm, welcoming, and incredibly helpful—truly one of the friendliest teams I’ve encountered.
The nurse that draw my blood was outstanding, by far the best experience I’ve ever had getting blood drawn. She was gentle, efficient, and made me feel completely at ease.
Dr. Sukanthanag himself was wonderful. He took the time to really listen to all my questions, gave thoughtful and thorough answers, and made sure I left with a clear understanding of everything we discussed. His attentiveness and genuine care stood out and made me feel very comfortable and confident in his care.
Overall, the entire team is professional, kind, and attentive. I highly recommend Dr. Sukanthanag and his staff to anyone looking for excellent medical care.

Dr Sukanthanag was the best decision I made for a new PCP! He was friendly, a good listener and efficient with everything I asked regarding my health. Dr. S. was professional, friendly, informative, patient and thorough. The medical assistant, receptionist and security gentleman were very helpful and friendly, check-in was easy and there was hardly a wait time. The office is conveniently located near the J, M, F on Delancey and Essex St. I would recommend Dr. S. to family and friends.
