Dr. Albert Janerich is dually Board Certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Medicine and Addictive Diseases. He was born and raised in Plains, Pennsylvania and graduated from Kings College in 1973 and later from Jefferson Medical College in 1977. He then stayed on at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, completing a residency training program in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. While at Jefferson, he participated in the development of its nationally recognized Spinal Cord Injury Program. He also developed a particular interest in Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation and Chronic Pain. After completing his training at Jefferson, he accepted the position of Medical Director of Rehabilitation Medicine at the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, a position that he enjoyed until 1993 when he left to go out on his own in private practice. While at Geisinger, he developed the peripheral neurophysiologic department focusing on nerve conduction studies and electromyography. He also developed clinical programs for patients suffering with Chronic Pain and those in need of Cardiac/Pulmonary Rehabilitation as well as those with amputations. It was during his tenure at Geisinger that he became Board Certified in Addictive Diseases and established a relationship with Marworth. He went on to develop the first inpatient Medical Detoxification Program in Luzerne County. Dr. Albert Janerich’s current practice focuses on patients with pain be it acute or chronic, and those in need of general physical medicine and rehabilitation treatment. He also continues to serve patients with chemical dependency and addictive diseases. This is of particular significance given the current opioid epidemic/crisis in our country. He is on staff at the John Heinz Institute for Rehabilitation Medicine and is a consultant physician at all of the local community hospitals and nursing homes. He is the Medical Director of the Physical Therapy Department at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
