About Dr. Alejandro Pruitt
Dr. Pruitt joined our practice in 2006 after serving for over 20 years in the U.S. Air Force. He earned his Doctor of Medicine from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and completed his Bachelor's degree at the State University of New York. He completed both his residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Gastroenterology at Wilford Hall Medical Center, where he spent his last 13 years. During his tenure there, he was a key faculty member responsible for training over 30 gastroenterologists. Dr. Pruitt enjoys all aspects of gastroenterology but has a special interest in esophageal, pancreatic, and biliary diseases, as well as advanced therapeutic endoscopy, performing over 1,000 advanced procedures annually on patients referred from throughout South Texas. He has expertise in endoluminal stenting for the palliation of obstructing tumors or repair of leaks and fistulas; endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) for the removal of early esophageal and gastric tumors; radiofrequency ablation of Barrett's esophagus (HALO); and complex biliary and pancreatic endoscopy (ERCP), including Spyglass with EHL, sphincter of Oddi manometry, and ampullectomy. He is also highly regarded for his radial and linear endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) skills. His skill set continues to expand with the addition of transoral incisionless fundoplication (TIF), an anti-reflux procedure, as well as endoscopic suturing (Overstitch) for bariatric patients. Dr. Pruitt is active in several professional organizations and continues to teach gastroenterology fellows in the private practice setting. He and his wife, Kimberly, are the proud parents of five children.

Very confident in Dr. Pruitt's expertise. He got me through an esophasgectomy in 2010 and with my surgeon was the best team I could have asked for. Having eradicated the cancer, I now go back for annual exams and all is still well. Great doc!

My first impression is that I was taken to the back about 8 minutes before my scheduled appointment. After my vitals were taken and a short wait, Dr. Pruitt was in my room. I found Dr. Pruitt to be very professional and thorough in his time with me. He made sure that he heard my account of my problem instead of just relying on the hospital report that I had brought with me. He concluded that it would be best to do one additional test, and he made sure to explain what and why he wanted to do this test. His goal was to get to the root of my problem.

Dr. Pruitt was very pleasant. He took the time to answer all my questions and made sure I understood his explanations and instructions. My GE Specialist, Dr. Pruitt:
- Reviewed my medical history concerning colonoscopy procedures;
- Explained the latest protocol(s) for conduct of this procedure;
- Discussed my chronic history of GERD and why it would be wise to test for Barrett's Esophagus, given that I have been on acid suppression therapy for several years. I agreed, and the diagnostic procedural exam will be conducted in conjuction with my upcoming colonoscopy.

Accuracy of treatment or diagnosis: not sure he gets good marks here. He has tested me with Gastro Endoscopy, I have had CT scan, Stomach empty study and he still doesn't know what my diagnosis is. I believe we are working through what it isn't. Not sure I can hold out for the outcome. My assessment so far "Marginal"

He educated me on my heath and took time to explain on the findings on my recent hospital visit. Dr. Pruitt showed his concern on my health conditions and advise me on his recommendations.
He might be strict and straight forward but he is an excellent doctor and i appreciate his recommendation and advise. We need more doctors like him that will get to the point and not waste time on guessing on a patient health. Keep up the Good Work Dr. Pruitt.
