Alexandra O'Malley, APRN, RN

Adult Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
NY
I'm Lexi, a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner who believes mental health treatment should be as straightforward as treating high blood pressure. If you had a physical health condition, you wouldn't hesitate to get help - your mental health deserves the same approach. I decided to pursue psychiatry after working with the psych population in the emergency department at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. They quickly became my favorite people to work with and I knew I'd found my calling.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I work with adolescents and adults dealing with depression, anxiety, PTSD, OCD, ADHD, and other psychiatric conditions. My approach is always open and honest. My patients tell me they appreciate knowing exactly where they stand in our relationship. While I focus on medication management, it’s always with a collaborative care approach because your needs and struggles don’t exist in isolation.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

If you're hesitant about starting, know that the first appointment is just a conversation to see how I can help you and what I can recommend. There's no commitment to continue or try medication. We figure it out together from there, and you stay in control the whole time .I always say: we're both in the car but you're driving. I'm sitting next to you with the map to guide you but ultimately you make the decisions about which way to go in your treatment.
