Dr. Aliza Romirowsky, PsyD

Psychologist
1430 Broadway, Ste 1510, New York, NY
I am a warm and empathic licensed clinical psychologist with a PsyD in Clinical Psychology from Yeshiva University and over 10 years of training and experience in and around New York City, including internship and fellowship at Zucker Hillside Hospital. I work with adults both younger and older in individual psychotherapy. Whether you are facing challenges coping with life transitions and major stressors, or struggling with low mood, depression, anxiety, overwhelm, relationship conflict, feelings of shame, guilt, confusion, or difficulty finding personal meaning, I can help you. I’ve worked with clients who are struggling with conflict in their families, at work, or in their social circles, as well as those navigating grief and loss, perinatal and reproductive issues, and adjustment to challenging life stages such as early adulthood, retirement, and parenthood. I want you to know that no matter the struggle, pain, or challenge you are facing, you do not need to walk this path alone.

Getting to know Dr. Aliza Romirowsky

I’ve worked with clients who are struggling with conflict in their families, at work, or in their social circles, as well as those navigating grief and loss, perinatal and reproductive issues, and adjustment to challenging life stages such as early adulthood, retirement, and parenthood. What should a new client know about working with you?

I affirm the diversity found in the human experience, and respect the ways we are all complexly positioned within overlapping politicized systems, that deeply affect our identities, perspectives and create inequities among us. Our work should be that of mitigating the impact of these damaging forces, challenging them, overcoming them and healing from their impact. I come to Bryant West Psychology after serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Mount Sinai Hospital, where I was also the Coordinator of the Psychology Extern Training Program. I have also trained at Zucker Hillside and Kings County Hospitals, as well as a Community Clinic in the Bronx. I am an Alumna of Columbia (Barnard) and Yeshiva Universities, the latter is where I earned my Doctor of Psychology Degree. I am dedicated to my own learning and growth, and perhaps my best source of growth is working directly with my clients, as we grow together in the process of psychotherapy.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

As a well trained psychologist, I work mainly from a depth, psychodynamic perspective, recognizing the often deep nature of our emotional struggles, but I have at my disposal ways of helping you that include Cognitive-Behavioral, Interpersonal, Humanistic, and Family System approaches, among other modalities. This gives me the flexibility to fashion a treatment that is most effective for your unique needs. In addition to getting to know you and your struggles, my highest priority in our work is to create a therapeutic space that fosters trust and mutual respect between us. Our work will be interactive and collaborative. I welcome feedback and honesty and will provide that to you in return. We will strive to cultivate compassion, and a recognition of our shared humanity. And I will make sure that we recognize your strengths and sources of resilience, both of which we will cultivate and to which we may add additional skills and resources. Sometimes we will delve into your past to gain greater understanding of ways that your history impacts your present functioning. Other times we will focus on immediate challenges. I encourage you to reach out to me so we can begin a process of growth and development towards your feeling freer to fulfill your needs, cultivate relationships that work for you, and pursue a life that is sustaining and more deeply satisfying.
