What should a new client know about working with you?

Patients often come to psychiatry when they feel overwhelmed, uncertain, or frustrated that their symptoms have not improved despite trying to manage them on their own. My approach is calm, thoughtful, and collaborative. I believe that effective psychiatric care begins with understanding the full picture of a person’s life, including emotional experiences, medical history, stressors, and personal goals. During our work together, I aim to create an environment where patients feel comfortable discussing both symptoms and the circumstances that may contribute to them. Many people seek help for concerns such as depression, anxiety, panic attacks, difficulty concentrating, sleep problems, or burnout from demanding professional lives. Others are navigating major life transitions, including midlife changes or challenges related to aging. Treatment may include medication management, supportive therapeutic conversation, and practical strategies to improve daily functioning. When appropriate, I may also recommend psychotherapy or collaboration with psychologists or neuropsychologists within our practice if additional evaluation or therapy would be beneficial. My goal is not simply symptom reduction, but helping patients better understand what is happening and develop a sustainable plan that supports long-term mental health and stability.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first appointment is a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation designed to understand your symptoms, history, and current concerns in detail. We begin by discussing what brought you in, when the symptoms started, and how they affect your daily life, relationships, sleep, work, and overall well-being. I also review prior treatments, medications, medical history, family history, and any significant life events or stressors that may be contributing to what you are experiencing. This conversation allows us to develop a clear diagnostic picture. Many patients seek care for concerns such as depression, anxiety, panic attacks, mood instability, difficulty concentrating, sleep disturbances, or burnout. In some cases, symptoms may overlap or change over time, so part of my role is to carefully sort through these patterns and determine whether they are related to conditions such as anxiety disorders, mood disorders, ADHD, or stress-related difficulties. If there are concerns about memory, cognitive functioning, or diagnostic complexity, I may recommend collaboration with psychologists or neuropsychologists in our practice for further evaluation. After the initial evaluation, we develop an individualized treatment plan. Treatment often includes medication management when appropriate, along with ongoing conversation that helps track symptoms, identify triggers, and monitor progress. Many patients benefit from combining psychiatric treatment with psychotherapy, and I frequently coordinate care with therapists within our practice to ensure that treatment approaches are aligned. Follow-up visits focus on monitoring how you are feeling, adjusting medications when needed, and addressing new stressors or challenges that arise. The goal of these sessions is not only symptom relief but also helping patients gain a clearer understanding of their mental health and develop practical strategies that support long-term stability and resilience.
