Psychologist
1 Union Square W, Ste 916, New York, NY
I work using a psychodynamic approach, which means that the unconscious is an important part of the treatment. I understand the unconscious as that part of ourselves that does not feel like us but keeps coming up in our choices, fantasies, relationships, and life in general. An important part of the treatment is to raise curiosity about behavioral patterns that do not fit with the way we think of ourselves. I work with teenagers and adults from diverse backgrounds, and I believe the strength of my approach lies in helping people expand their understanding of complex issues-not only by listening to their explicit and implicit narratives but also by paying attention to dreams, body language, and the experiences and images that arise during sessions. I use psychoanalytic theory as a lens to process what takes place-an approach that does not necessarily require a couch or multiple sessions a week. I hold a Doctor of Philosophy degree from Adelphi University, which has deepened my understanding of these therapeutic processes and informs my clinical work.
