About Dr. Alvin Li
Dr. Alvin Li is a fellowship trained dermatologist specializing in medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology. He prides himself on his patient-oriented approach to treating skin conditions, making sure to treat not only the disease, but the patient as a whole.
A California native, Dr. Li attended the University of California, Los Angeles, where he graduated magna cum laude with a degree in Neuroscience. He subsequently completed his medical school training at the Yale School of Medicine. After finishing a rigorous medical internship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, he completed his dermatologic training at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, where he was elected Chief Resident in his final year.
Dr. Li is an enthusiast photographer with particular interest in landscape, architectural, and portrait photography. In his free time, he also enjoys traveling, cooking, weight lifting and spending time with family.

Was seeing this guy for a few months for keloid treatment. Then suddenly he insisted on no longer treating me and referring me to a different medical center, claiming my case was “beyond dermatology” when photos and close monitoring clearly said otherwise. Felt like I was practically gaslit out of the office that day, despite knowing my own body well enough to see the treatment clearly had been improving the condition of my keloid. Will be seeing another provider and continuing treatment elsewhere; don’t go to this guy unless you want to feel like a quick payout and have your concerns dismissed.

Horrible experiences! I am really shocked how California Skin Institute is in business (1) I booked them via Zocdoc, went to the place, receptionist told me that the appointment by Zocdoc is not confirmed until she calls and confirms with me. Next available appointment was 2 months later! What if my skin issue worsens or is irrelevant in 2 months. She had no regard or empathy to my urgent situation (2) California Skin Institute NEVER receives/calls back even after you leave a detailed voice mail . Even if you want to cancel an appointment (3) They send monthly reminders and ask for payments, even if you did not book. You call them back, and they never receive the call.

Everything was great except the doctor told me he prescribed me 2 medications, and when I came to the pharmacy turned out they had only one, and another never came. Will need to find out what happened to the other half of my promised prescription.

I waited over 30 minutes, and the time spent with the doctor was probably less than 10 minutes. I was given a notepad paper where the doc wrote my treatment plan in permanent marker, no formal paperwork...They did not send my prescriptions to the pharmacy, and service was unfriendly when I called to inquire.

it seems that doctor was in a rush. There were also two people despite the doctor and I didn't understand if it was internship students or assistant or who else.
I didn't feel that the care after treatment was enough.
I still have some issues I want to go with to another doctor.

I was thoroughly pleased by the whole experience. The front office was very efficient getting me checked in amd seen quickly.
Dr. Li had a great bedside manner. He was very approachable and put me at ease. I didn't feel rushed through the appointment and he made sure all my concerns were addressed.
I will definitely go back and have already booked my next yearly screening.
