Getting to know Dr. Alyssa Deitchman

You may find yourself feeling stuck in familiar emotional or relational patterns, struggling with mood shifts, self-doubt, or a sense that insight alone hasn’t led to lasting change. I work with individuals who want to understand why these patterns persist, and to change them in a meaningful, sustainable way. I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with an extensive background in research, clinical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment. My clinical work is informed by empirically supported approaches, including psychodynamic psychotherapy, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). I integrate psychotherapy outcome research into my work while maintaining a collaborative, transparent, and thoughtful therapeutic process. My approach is both analytical and relational. Together, we work to understand how biological, social, environmental, and relational factors shape your current experience, allowing for treatment that is individualized, precise, and responsive to your needs. Through diverse training experiences throughout New York City, I have extensive experience working with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and life circumstances. I approach treatment from a multicultural, allied perspective and value creating a space that feels thoughtful, respectful, and psychologically safe. While I work with a broad range of concerns, I specialize in the treatment of mood disorders, personality dynamics, trauma, and issues related to codependency and interpersonal dependency. I believe that every person comes to therapy with a unique history that deserves to be understood with nuance, care, and humanity. My goal is to provide highly individualized treatment that attends to personality structure, relational patterns, and emotional life, supporting increased self-understanding, emotional flexibility, and healing across multiple areas of life.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Psychodynamic therapy looks at the “why” behind your emotional patterns: why you feel anxious in certain situations, repeat dynamics in relationships, or struggle to fully relax and feel enough. By understanding these deeper layers, you gain more freedom, confidence, and choice in your life. People who benefit most are those who sense that their struggles have roots they can’t quite articulate and want a safe, thoughtful space to explore them. This work is collaborative, insight-driven, and designed for meaningful, long-term change.

While my insurance ultimately was not accepted, Alyssa was very nice in listening to me and referring me to another provider.
Dr. Deitchman is a fantastic therapist. She's kind, empathetic and supports her patients with enthusiasm and genuine respect.
Attentive and empathetic plus super insightful. The 3 things that make the best psychologist you can find.
Hoorible. She lies about taking your insurance. Then tries to get you into paying her hundreds per session.

It was great. First time seeing someone and she was very nice and easy to talk to
Hands down the BEST experience I’ve ever had with a mental health professional!!! I came to Dr. Deitchman when I was really struggling and barely hanging in there. I had seen a few people for my needs trying to find a good match for me that I felt comfortable with and no one made as feel as seen as she has… SOOO much of an positive impact she’s on my mental well being and what a world of difference in how I felt after just one session. She was not only professional and attentive, but she was also super kind and easy to talk to/open up to. Now a few months into seeing her, I can say that life quality has improved so much due to me being in a better state of mind with her guidance and understanding. Highly recommend her to anyone looking for someone who will actually help & make a difference in their time of need and journey for improving mentally in their time of struggle . I wish I came to her sooner! Such a wonderful experience and I’m looking forward to more even progress.
Dr. Deitchman has been such a helpful figure to me—always deeply empathetic while also encouraging me to take responsibility and stay accountable. That balance has been pivotal in helping me recognize that I can take back control of my life and begin breaking out of old, dysfunctional patterns.
Dr. Deitchman has been phenomenal in helping me, especially during my mental crisis when I needed guidance. Not only was she empathetic and professional, but she was also very kind. She was genuine and made me feel taken care of. I would recommend her to anyone in need of a good psychologist. I’m looking forward to seeing her working with her from this point on. Great experience
Dr. Deitchman is very skilled and is excellent at her job. With her help I have achieved many things I never thought possible. I I highly recommend Dr. Deitchman to anyone seeking an excellent therapist. I can’t even put into words how much she has helped me.
I have been seeing Dr. Deitchman for a couple of years now and cannot emphasize enough what a phenomenal therapist she is. Her demeanor, intellect, and approach has helped me grow in ways I truly didn’t know I could. I am so grateful I found her and have been able to build upon my work week after week
I've been seeing Alyssa for about 1.5 years. She's got great empathy, is astute in her observations, and is not afraid to call me out on things. She is friendly, but very professional.
Smartest and most empathetic therapist ever. I have never progressed as quickly with a therapist. She is a great listener and gives science-based guidance to get better
I have had the pleasure of working with a truly remarkable therapist who embodies thoughtfulness, insight, and intentionality in every session. Her ability to listen deeply and understand my experiences has been incredibly transformative. She offers profound insights that have helped me gain clarity and perspective on my challenges, while her intentional approach ensures that each session is both meaningful and productive. Her genuine care and dedication to my well-being make her an invaluable guide on my journey towards personal growth and healing.
Alyssa is by far the best therapist I've ever worked with. She was great at asking insightful questions and getting me to come out of my shell and talk about my feelings. She made me feel really comfortable, supported, and validated too. When appropriate, Alyssa provided some outside resources as well that were really helpful. I would definitely recommend her to anyone seeking treatment!
Dr. Deitchman is a true gem! She is extremely caring, empathetic and gently reaches the core of any issues to help begin healing and/or rectifying. She is able to explain concepts in an easily understood manner and truly takes pride in her work. I would strongly recommend Dr. Deitchman.
I was resistant to seeking help and was more or less pressured into therapy. It has turned out thus far to be an extremely rewarding experience. Dr. Deitchman is very easy to work with and very insightful and intuitive. I’m very grateful thus far and highly recommend her.
Alyssa is a great therapist. I've been seeing her weekly for 10 months and plan to continue to do so as long as I can. I recommend her to anyone who is willing to commit to doing the work.

Dr. Alyssa Deitchman is exactly who I was looking for: compassionate but also very analytical. She is trained in a variety of therapeutic techniques but specializes in modern psychoanalytics. Unfortunately ZocDoc mistakenly listed her as in-network even though she is out-of-network for me, but if she sounds like a good fit, I'd encourage you to reach out and ask about her out-of-pocket rates!
Dr. Deitchman is extremely helpful and personable. You can tell she really cares about her patients and their development. It was nice to find someone a little closer to my age (mid 20s) that felt more relatable and approachable.
Even though it was a video call, I still felt very safe and comfortable. She made me feel welcome and listened to what I had to say which is great given this is the first time I’ve ever gone to therapy and especially since I made the decision myself
