“Dr. Alyssa has gone above and beyond the basics. I've had so many doctors who spent 10-15 minutes with me but I left feeling like I'm just a case number. I'm a social worker, so I know how these things go, but Alyssa remembers my concerns and things that are important to me from months ago. ”

Getting to know Dr. Alyssa Hamel

I've been in the field for more than a decade helping thousands of people over my career. My approach is all about teamwork - working together to create a clear, structured treatment plan that feels right for you. While there’s always a bit of trial and error with medications, I believe in minimizing guesswork by building a thoughtful, results-driven plan from the start. Having taught many nurse practitioners over my career, I'm very experienced in explaining the behind-the-scenes of how the medication works so that you can make an informed decision about which approach to try.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My practice isn’t just about writing prescriptions. I'm passionate about saying I’m here to partner with you and include myself on your team. We’ll stay in close communication, adjusting the plan as needed, so you feel supported and in control of your care before moving into more of a follow-up phase of treatment.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I take the time to get to know you and your therapeutic goals, so that our decisions are therapeutically aligned with your bigger picture. I’ll explain how different medications work, how brain chemistry plays a role, and how we can optimize your treatment to get the best possible outcome.

I feel like I have a better understanding of my thoughts and how I am not my thoughts. Since working together I'm able to have more clarity and feel less consumed by my anxieties. Alyssa took the time to educate me on my symptoms resulting in me feeling less alone and more empowered.
Dr. Alyssa has gone above and beyond the basics. I've had so many doctors who spent 10-15 minutes with me but I left feeling like I'm just a case number. I'm a social worker, so I know how these things go, but Alyssa remembers my concerns and things that are important to me from months ago.
I am more than a diagnosis, and Alyssa gets that. Alyssa sees me as a person who loves their children, wants to do a good job at work, and someone who wants to be present for her family. When I come to my appointments I immediately feel relieved, like I'm in a safe space and I'm better prepared to handle life’s obstacles better and better each time I walk out of our sessions.
Alyssa's experience with eating disorders and understanding my diagnoses and how to best navigate these symptoms has been a lifesaver. I was struggling so much with work, my self-worth, and my marriage and Alyssa's treatment recommendations and ability to address both of my concerns was a game-changer. I don’t know who else could or would have taken the time to do that.
Dr. Alyssa's approach is like a perfect balance- she has helped me confront the things I need work on. And when I need help to see differently; a mental challenge, but I also feel supported and and never judged.
I've never had a provider sit down with me and help me understand how the medication works on the brain and what to expect from the medication, in terms of goals of treatment and possible side effects. I was hesitant to start a medication but Alyssa helped me make an informed decision on my own terms without making me feel pressured. Starting the medication under her guidance was the best choice I've made and I feel safe and supported under her care.
I've really appreciated the time and patience Alyssa had with me while working together. I don’t know what I would’ve done without her during these difficult times. I appreciated her listening to me and taking my concerns about medication into consideration. Thank you for believing in me Alyssa!
Alyssa has helped me develop strategic ways of handling my emotions when life feels very overwhelming. She actually takes the time to listen and helped me think in ways that are helpful and nurturing.
Dr. Alyssa was the best provider I've had. She is easy to talk to but also challenged me when I got stuck in negative thought patterns. Her knowledge of medications and attention to goals and progress rather than set backs has helped me see the progress I've made rather than dwell on the past.
I trusted Alyssa's expertise and appreciated that she focused on other things besides medication like supportive therapy and physical wellness. Nobody has asked me about my cultural preferences before, and that was very meaningful because my heritage plays a huge role into who I am as a person and how I see the world. Thank you for seeing that and helping me get better while staying true to my roots!
Alyssa has been so helpful throughout my journey. She has always been supportive of me and what I need. She takes good care of her patients always making sure their health is good. Alyssa is always very responsive to any symptoms that might come up for me, and helps me work through them. I would highly recommend Alyssa for care, she has helped me grow so much and I’m so thankful for that!
The professionalism and kindness Alyssa has shown me throughout our years of working together has had an immense impact on my life. She has always allowed me the time I need to share in depth how my mental health struggles are affecting my life. Even during my worst mental breakdowns, Alyssa always showed me the utmost respect. She has always supported me and never forced medication on me. She recommended medications for my mental health that have helped me soar to new heights and develop a healthier baseline. Alyssa has led every session we have had together with a smile and has always met me at my level of understanding when explaining how the medications I am taking are affecting the chemicals in my brain. Alyssa is one of the most knowledgeable and intelligent people I have had the pleasure of working with throughout my mental health journey. I can feel the passion she has for helping myself and others in our sessions. Anyone would be lucky to have her on their treatment team!
