Getting to know Alyssa Killion
Alyssa's approach to mental health care is holistic. She believes in building a therapeutic alliance with each patient, fostering trust and understanding to facilitate healing. Alyssa empowers individuals with knowledge, and her clear, direct style ensures patients receive information straightforwardly, enabling informed decisions about their mental health. She fosters resilience through a holistic approach addressing symptoms and underlying factors contributing to distress.
Alyssa holds a Master’s degree in Family Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, which informs her comprehensive and compassionate care.
The first appointment lasts 60-90 minutes for a full evaluation. Follow-ups are scheduled with our office and last 20-30 minutes.
Upon booking, you must complete paperwork from our private practice. We will email this to you, and it must be completed within 24 hours.
We accept insurance through Team Headway: Aetna, Horizon BCBS of NJ, United Healthcare, Oxford, and Oscar.
**You will need to sign up with Team Headway; we will send a sign-up email to process insurance.**
DO NOT SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT WITH ALYSSA IF:
1. You cannot fill out paperwork within 24 hours of booking.
2. You are referred by an attorney.
3. You need a disability evaluation, insurance forms, work forms, or any written report.
4. You are scheduling for someone other than yourself.
5. You are on a daily benzodiazepine prescription (Xanax, Klonopin, Ativan, Valium, etc.) and are unwilling to taper.
6. You have been recently hospitalized for psychiatric reasons and did not complete PHP/IOP.
7. You are not a resident of or located in New Jersey for appointments.
8. You are seeking a stimulant for ADHD (we do not prescribe stimulants).
9. You are seeking treatment solely for a sleep disorder.
What should a new client know about working with you?
Please understand that Zocdoc is solely a scheduling platform for first time patients. When you book an appointment through Zocdoc, you still needed to be added to our system and will need to complete a fair amount of paperwork. Be on a lookout for emails from ANK Behavioral Health containing a Patient intake form. Once you complete the steps in this paperwork you are registered with our system and will receive telehealth links for the Zoom appointment.
Please be aware that our first appt is a consultation only. At this point you are not yet considered to have entered into a treatment relationship, and the provider may determine that they are not able to treat you, and/or find that it is in your best interests to receive treatment in a different setting, at a different level of care, or, with a different provider.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
Alyssa aims to offer integrative recommendations and may include non-pharmacological options as appropriate; this means that you will go beyond talking about symptoms only. Alyssa also provide supportive talk therapy alongside evaluation and follow up visits.

I am so happy to have finally found a psychiatrist that actually took the time to listen to me and have a conversation with me that wasn't just 5 minutes (she spent an hour with me on our first visit). Other doctors rush patients in and out in 5-10 minutes like a prescription factory. Allysa was genuine, down to earth, and very knowledgable. I am very excited to have found her, and I look forward to working with her again.
