Getting to know Amaka Iheaka

I am a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner dedicated to providing compassionate, individualized mental health care. I work with children, adolescents, and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, mood disorders, trauma, PTSD, stress, and other emotional or behavioral concerns. My approach is collaborative, trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, and nonjudgmental. I believe mental health care should be a partnership where you feel heard, respected, and comfortable discussing what you are experiencing. Together, we will explore your concerns and develop a treatment plan tailored to your individual needs and goals. My services include comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and supportive psychotherapy. I take time to understand the whole person—not simply a diagnosis—and provide education so patients can participate actively in decisions about their care. Whether you are seeking help for the first time, returning to treatment, or looking for a provider who will listen and work alongside you, my goal is to provide a supportive space where you can feel comfortable taking the next step toward improved mental and emotional wellness.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I want you to feel heard, respected, and comfortable being yourself. Our sessions are collaborative and judgment-free, and you will never be rushed to share more than you are ready to discuss. I take time to understand your concerns, experiences, goals, and what matters most to you. I believe treatment works best when we make decisions together. I will explain your options clearly, answer your questions, and work with you to develop a plan that feels realistic and personalized to your needs. Whether we are focusing on medication management, supportive therapy, or both, my goal is to create a safe and compassionate space where you feel supported throughout your mental health journey.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our first session is focused on getting to know you and understanding what brings you to care. We will discuss your current symptoms, mental health and medical history, medications, life experiences, stressors, sleep, and treatment goals. I also take time to understand how your symptoms are affecting your everyday life. From there, we work together to develop an individualized treatment plan. Depending on your needs, treatment may include medication management, supportive therapy, coping strategies, lifestyle recommendations, or a combination of approaches. If medication is appropriate, I will explain the options, potential benefits, and possible side effects so you can be involved in the decision. Follow-up visits focus on your progress, how you are feeling, medication response when applicable, and any new concerns. Treatment is adjusted as needed, and I encourage questions and open communication throughout the process. My goal is for you to feel heard and actively involved in your care.
