What should a new client know about working with you?

New clients can expect a collaborative, thoughtful approach to care. I take time to understand your symptoms, personal history, goals, and previous treatment experiences before making recommendations. I believe patients should understand the reasoning behind their treatment plan, including the potential benefits, risks, and alternatives, rather than simply being handed a prescription and sent on their way. My approach may include medication management, psychotherapy, education, lifestyle considerations, and coordination with other healthcare professionals when appropriate. I value open communication and welcome questions, feedback, and honest discussion about what is or is not working. Treatment is individualized, and adjustments are made together based on your response, preferences, and changing needs. Initial evaluations are comprehensive, so you may be asked detailed questions about your mental health, medical history, sleep, relationships, functioning, and current stressors. My goal is to create a respectful, nonjudgmental space where you feel heard, supported, and actively involved in your care.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My process begins with a comprehensive initial evaluation. We will discuss your current concerns, mental health and medical history, previous treatments, medications, sleep, daily functioning, relationships, and treatment goals. I may also use standardized screening tools when helpful to better understand your symptoms and establish a baseline. After the evaluation, we will review my clinical impressions and discuss treatment options together. Recommendations may include medication, psychotherapy, lifestyle changes, laboratory testing, or coordination with other healthcare professionals. I will explain the reasoning behind each recommendation, along with potential benefits, risks, and alternatives, so you can make informed decisions about your care. Follow-up visits focus on monitoring progress, addressing concerns, reviewing medication effectiveness and side effects, and adjusting the treatment plan as needed. Early in treatment or after medication changes, appointments are typically scheduled more frequently. As symptoms become stable, visits may be spaced farther apart. Throughout the process, I encourage honest feedback and view treatment as an ongoing collaboration.

More information on payments and coverage

I am licensed to practice in Missouri (greater Kansas City area) and Kansas, and I am only able to provide care to patients residing in these states. Please ensure you are located in one of these states at the time of your appointment. Copays and self-pay fees are collected at the time of service. Self-pay clients may pay in full before the appointment or arrange an approved payment plan in advance. Insurance coverage and benefits vary by plan, and verification of benefits is not a guarantee of payment. Clients are responsible for any deductible, copay, coinsurance, or noncovered balance assigned by their insurance company. Controlled-substance prescriptions require additional clinical and regulatory review. This may include reviewing the prescription drug monitoring program, confirming the date of the last visit, evaluating refill history, checking for potential medication interactions or safety concerns, and documenting the prescribing decision. For controlled-substance refill requests submitted more than 30 days after the most recent appointment, a $20 administrative fee may be charged to cover the additional time and review required outside of a scheduled visit. Regular follow-up appointments help ensure that medications remain safe, appropriate, and effective. In some situations, an appointment may be required before a controlled-substance prescription can be renewed.
