Getting to know Amanda Lawal

My goal is to deliver psychiatry that is truly personal, where my clients feel heard and validated. If you have experienced care from a provider who seems uninvested, uncaring, judgmental, or makes cookie-cutter treatment plans, I aim to change that. Reducing stigma is important to me, and I pride myself on creating relationships based on trust. A personal passion of mine is supporting those with co-occurring addictions. I believe everyone with addiction can achieve the dream of a balanced, sober life. I specialize in treating complex disorders, such as treatment-resistant depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and borderline personality disorder.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I take a thoughtful, structured, and collaborative approach to psychiatric care. My style is direct but supportive — I want you to feel heard and understood, while also leaving each appointment with clarity and a concrete plan. I focus on evidence-based medication management for adults experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, mood concerns, and stress-related symptoms. I believe in treating the whole person, which means we look not only at symptoms, but also sleep, lifestyle, stress load, medical factors, and environment. Medication is never prescribed casually; we discuss risks, benefits, and alternatives together so you can make informed decisions. I do not provide weekly standalone psychotherapy, but I integrate supportive therapy techniques into medication visits and strongly value collaboration with therapists when appropriate. If ongoing therapy is part of your treatment plan, I am happy to coordinate care. You can expect appointments to be focused and goal-oriented. We will track symptoms, adjust treatment as needed, and prioritize measurable improvement. I appreciate patients who are engaged in their care and open to honest discussion about what is — and is not — working. If you are looking for quick prescriptions without evaluation or ongoing follow-up, my practice may not be the right fit. If you want careful assessment, practical guidance, and a collaborative partnership in managing your mental health, we will likely work well together.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My practice provides comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and medication management for adults via secure telehealth. I currently accept Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) and also offer self-pay options. The first appointment is a 75–90 minute diagnostic evaluation. During this session, we review your current concerns, psychiatric and medical history, prior treatments, family history, lifestyle factors, and any relevant labs or records. My goal is to fully understand the root of your symptoms — not just assign a quick diagnosis. If appropriate, we will discuss evidence-based treatment options, which may include medication, lifestyle strategies, and coordination with your therapist or primary care provider. Follow-up visits are typically 20–30 minutes and focus on monitoring symptoms, medication effectiveness, side effects, and treatment adjustments. While I provide supportive therapy during medication visits, I do not offer weekly standalone psychotherapy. If ongoing therapy would be helpful, I am happy to collaborate with your current therapist or provide referrals. Appointments may be canceled if required forms are not submitted in advance. For insurance patients: Please verify that your specific BCBS plan is in-network prior to booking, as coverage varies by plan type. You are responsible for any copays, deductibles, or coinsurance required by your plan. For self-pay patients: Payment is due at the time of service. Superbills can be provided upon request for possible out-of-network reimbursement. If you are looking for structured, collaborative medication management with a clear and thoughtful approach, I would be glad to work with you.
