Getting to know Amanda Long

I'm a board-certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) with a Master's in Nursing from Walden University, and I'm here to support you on your mental health journey. What matters most to me is creating a space where you feel truly heard—a place without judgment, where hope and healing can take root. I believe that when you understand what's happening with your mental health, you're empowered to take meaningful steps forward. My passion for this work started early in my career when I saw firsthand how much people needed compassionate, holistic care. That experience shaped everything I do today. I've dedicated myself to improving outcomes for my clients, raising awareness about mental health, and advocating for better care in every community I serve. When we work together, you can expect me to really listen. Your story, your goals, and your unique needs guide everything we do. Together, we'll create a personalized plan that makes sense for you—one that supports not just your recovery, but your overall wellness and the life you want to live.

What should a new client know about working with you?

As a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, I bring together clinical knowledge and genuine compassion to deliver thoughtful, individualized medication management. Your first appointment is entirely focused on understanding you as a whole person—well beyond any single diagnosis or symptom. We will discuss your current concerns, how they affect daily life, your mental health and medical background, previous treatments and your experience with them, relevant family history, and the goals you are working toward. This comprehensive evaluation allows me to understand your unique needs before exploring any treatment direction. Medication management in my practice is grounded in current evidence while honoring the fact that every individual responds differently. When reviewing your options, I explain the science in clear, accessible language—how a medication works, the conditions it targets, realistic improvement timelines, and side effects to monitor. My aim is for you to leave every visit with a genuine understanding of your treatment plan, not just a list of instructions. My prescribing philosophy centers on well-established medications, conservative starting doses, and attentive ongoing monitoring—with adjustments shaped by your personal response over time. I also consider real-world factors such as insurance coverage, cost-friendly alternatives, and dosing schedules that fit smoothly into your daily life, so your plan is both clinically sound and truly manageable. Between appointments, I stay reachable. If you experience side effects or notice shifts in how you are feeling, I encourage you to reach out rather than waiting for your next visit. Honest communication is the foundation of effective care. No two people are the same, and no two treatment plans should be either. Many clients share that what they value most is feeling genuinely heard, receiving clear explanations, and being treated as an active partner in their own care. You are not alone.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My approach is grounded in treating you as a complete person, not just a collection of symptoms. During our first session, I focus on truly listening—understanding what prompted you to seek care, your life experiences, and what you hope to achieve through treatment. We'll discuss your current concerns, review your medical and psychiatric history, examine past treatments and their effectiveness, and explore how your mental health affects your relationships, career, and everyday life. Collaboration is at the heart of my practice. I share my clinical impressions using clear, accessible language and explain medication options that may help you. Together, we'll explore how these medications function, their potential benefits, possible side effects, and any questions or concerns you have. I never rush these critical conversations—your comfort, understanding, and active involvement in treatment decisions are paramount. Follow-up appointments generally run 20 to 30 minutes, with additional time available when needed. During these visits, we'll evaluate your treatment response—identifying improvements, discussing ongoing challenges, and monitoring for side effects. I adjust medications carefully and provide continuous education about what to expect as your treatment evolves. I view medication management as a true partnership. You offer invaluable insight into your own experience, while I bring clinical expertise to help determine the most effective treatment path for your specific needs. I recognize that medication is frequently one element of comprehensive care. When beneficial, I work closely with your therapist or help connect you with therapy resources to support your overall well-being. I remain current with the latest research to ensure your treatment stays evidence-based and tailored to your individual situation. Between scheduled appointments, I'm available for urgent matters and encourage open communication throughout your care.
