Getting to know Amanda Long

I'm a board-certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) with a Master's in Nursing from Walden University, and I'm here to support you on your mental health journey. What matters most to me is creating a space where you feel truly heard—a place without judgment, where hope and healing can take root. I believe that when you understand what's happening with your mental health, you're empowered to take meaningful steps forward. My passion for this work started early in my career when I saw firsthand how much people needed compassionate, holistic care. That experience shaped everything I do today. I've dedicated myself to improving outcomes for my clients, raising awareness about mental health, and advocating for better care in every community I serve. When we work together, you can expect me to really listen. Your story, your goals, and your unique needs guide everything we do. Together, we'll create a personalized plan that makes sense for you—one that supports not just your recovery, but your overall wellness and the life you want to live.

What should a new client know about working with you?

As a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, I provide personalized medication management rooted in both clinical expertise and genuine care for every person I have the privilege of working with. Please note that I do not accept EAP programs. From our very first visit, my focus is on understanding you fully—not just a diagnosis or a list of symptoms, but your whole story. Together we'll explore what brought you in, how your mental health shows up in daily life, your personal and family history, treatments you've tried before and how they actually felt for you, and the goals that matter most to you right now. Taking that time early means any treatment direction we consider rests on a solid, meaningful foundation. When we discuss medication options, I'll explain how each one works, what to realistically expect over time, and which side effects to watch for—all in language that's clear, approachable, and easy to follow. My prescribing approach favors well-established medications, cautious starting doses, and steady, ongoing monitoring, so that any adjustments reflect how your body and mind are genuinely responding. Practical realities matter as much as clinical ones. I consider insurance coverage, affordable alternatives, and manageable dosing schedules, so your treatment plan holds up in real life and not only on paper. I also stay accessible between visits. Rather than waiting until your next appointment, I encourage you to reach out whenever something shifts or a concern comes up. Whether you're seeking psychiatric care for the first time or transitioning from another provider, I bring patience and individualized attention to conditions like depression, anxiety, ADHD, and bipolar disorder. What patients tell me they value most is feeling heard, receiving honest and clear answers, and being treated as an equal partner in their own care. That is exactly what I'm committed to providing.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Please note that I do not accept EAP programs. My practice centers on treating you as a whole person rather than a list of symptoms. I devote our first session to genuinely listening—understanding what brought you in, the experiences that have shaped who you are, and what you hope treatment will help you accomplish. Together we'll examine your current concerns, review your medical and psychiatric history, revisit earlier treatments and how effective they were for you, and explore how your mental health is influencing your relationships, your work, and your daily life. Working together is fundamental to how I practice. I explain my clinical reasoning in clear, everyday language and guide you through any medication options under consideration—how each functions, the benefits we'd expect, possible side effects, and whatever else may be on your mind. Your questions are always welcome, because they're essential to shaping the right plan for you. Follow-up appointments generally last 20 to 30 minutes, with extra time made available whenever it's needed. These visits are a dedicated chance to assess how you're responding, acknowledge your progress, address any challenges that have arisen, and monitor for side effects. Every adjustment I make is deliberate, and I keep you fully informed throughout. I regard medication management as a true partnership. You offer irreplaceable insight into your own lived experience, while I contribute clinical expertise to help determine what works best for you. Since medication is frequently just one piece of a wider care plan, I coordinate with your therapist or help connect you with therapy resources that support your overall wellbeing. I stay current with research so your care remains evidence-based and tailored to you. Between visits, I'm available for urgent concerns and value open communication at every step. My goal is to walk beside you, adapting your care as your needs change so you can move forward with clarity and confidence.
