Getting to know Amanda Long

I'm a board-certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) with a Master's in Nursing from Walden University, and I'm here to support you on your mental health journey. What matters most to me is creating a space where you feel truly heard—a place without judgment, where hope and healing can take root. I believe that when you understand what's happening with your mental health, you're empowered to take meaningful steps forward. My passion for this work started early in my career when I saw firsthand how much people needed compassionate, holistic care. That experience shaped everything I do today. I've dedicated myself to improving outcomes for my clients, raising awareness about mental health, and advocating for better care in every community I serve. When we work together, you can expect me to really listen. Your story, your goals, and your unique needs guide everything we do. Together, we'll create a personalized plan that makes sense for you—one that supports not just your recovery, but your overall wellness and the life you want to live.

What should a new client know about working with you?

As a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, I combine clinical expertise with genuine compassion to provide thoughtful, personalized medication management. Your first visit is dedicated entirely to understanding you as a whole person—going well beyond a single diagnosis or symptom. Together, we will discuss what's currently bringing you in, how it's impacting your daily life, your mental health and medical history, past treatments and how you experienced them, relevant family history, and the personal goals you're working toward. This in-depth evaluation forms the foundation before we explore any treatment direction. Medication management in my practice is grounded in current evidence while recognizing that every individual responds differently. When reviewing your options, I explain the science in accessible language—how a medication works, what conditions it addresses, realistic timelines for improvement, and side effects to be aware of. My goal is for you to leave each visit with a genuine understanding of your treatment plan, not simply a set of instructions. My prescribing philosophy favors well-established medications, conservative starting doses, and careful ongoing monitoring—with adjustments shaped by your response over time. I also consider practical factors such as insurance coverage, cost-effective alternatives, and dosing schedules that fit naturally into your daily routine, ensuring your plan is both clinically sound and truly manageable. I remain reachable between appointments. If you experience side effects or notice shifts in how you are feeling, I encourage you to reach out rather than waiting until your next visit. Honest, open communication is the foundation of effective care. Many patients share that what they value most is feeling genuinely heard, receiving clear explanations, and being treated as an active partner in their own care. You are not navigating this alone—I am here to support you every step of the way.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I believe in caring for you as a whole person rather than a list of symptoms. Our first session is dedicated to listening closely—learning what brought you in, the experiences that have shaped you, and the goals you hope treatment will help you reach. We'll talk through your present concerns, go over your medical and psychiatric history, look at treatments you've tried and how well they worked, and consider the ways your mental health touches your relationships, work, and daily routine. Working together is central to how I practice. I'll share my clinical thinking in plain, straightforward language and walk you through any medication options worth considering. We'll look at how each one works, what benefits you might expect, what side effects are possible, and whatever questions are on your mind. I won't hurry these important discussions—your understanding, and real participation in every decision matter deeply to me. Follow-up visits usually last 20 to 30 minutes, with more time set aside whenever it's needed. These appointments let us check how you're responding—noting progress, talking through any difficulties, and keeping an eye out for side effects. I make medication adjustments thoughtfully and keep you informed about what to anticipate as your care moves forward. To me, medication management is a genuine partnership. You bring essential knowledge of your own experience, and I bring clinical training to help identify the approach best suited to you. Medication is often just one piece of a fuller plan. I coordinate with your therapist or connect you with therapy resources to support your broader well-being. I stay up to date with current research so your care remains evidence-based and shaped around your individual needs. Between visits, I'm reachable for urgent concerns and welcome open communication at every stage of your treatment. My goal is to walk alongside you, adapting your care as your needs change so you can keep moving forward with confidence.
