Getting to know Amanda Long

I'm a board-certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) with a Master's in Nursing from Walden University, and I'm here to support you on your mental health journey. What matters most to me is creating a space where you feel truly heard—a place without judgment, where hope and healing can take root. I believe that when you understand what's happening with your mental health, you're empowered to take meaningful steps forward. My passion for this work started early in my career when I saw firsthand how much people needed compassionate, holistic care. That experience shaped everything I do today. I've dedicated myself to improving outcomes for my clients, raising awareness about mental health, and advocating for better care in every community I serve. When we work together, you can expect me to really listen. Your story, your goals, and your unique needs guide everything we do. Together, we'll create a personalized plan that makes sense for you—one that supports not just your recovery, but your overall wellness and the life you want to live.

What should a new client know about working with you?

As a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, I offer medication management rooted in compassion, clinical skill, and true partnership. I believe meaningful psychiatric care starts with trust, understanding, and working together. Psychopharmacology is my specialty, but I see you as a whole person—never just a diagnosis or a prescription. Your story, experiences, and goals guide everything we do, and my practice is a safe, judgment-free space where you can speak openly and honestly. Our visits go deeper than managing symptoms on the surface. I take time to understand your full picture: how you're sleeping, your stress, your relationships, your physical health, and how you're functioning day to day. Looking at these connected pieces helps me care for you holistically rather than treating isolated concerns. When it comes to medication, I value education and transparency. You'll learn how each treatment works, what to expect, possible side effects, and how we'll monitor your progress. Shared decision-making is at the heart of my approach—your preferences, concerns, and questions directly shape your plan. Recovery isn't a straight line, and I'm here to support you through every stage. We'll regularly review how your treatment is working, make thoughtful adjustments, and keep your care responsive to your changing needs. Between appointments, I stay reachable so you never feel alone in the process. I provide individualized care for depression, anxiety, ADHD, bipolar disorder, and other psychiatric conditions, always tailored to your situation. Whether this is your first time seeking care or you're moving from another provider, I'll meet you where you are with patience and understanding. My approach blends evidence-based medicine with genuine empathy—you deserve care that honors the full complexity of your experience. Together, we'll work toward lasting, meaningful healing.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our first visit together is unrushed and comprehensive. We'll explore what's bringing you in now, along with your psychiatric and medical history, the medications you take currently or have tried before, any meaningful stressors or trauma, family patterns, and the people you can lean on. My aim is to understand more than just your symptoms—I want to see how they're shaping your daily life, your relationships, your work, and your overall sense of wellbeing. Helping you make informed choices is central to how I practice. I'll explain any treatment I suggest in plain terms: how a medication functions, what we're working toward, which side effects to keep an eye on, and what other options exist. Asking questions is never a disruption—it's a vital part of how we move ahead as a team. We arrive at every decision together, and your preferences and autonomy guide the way throughout. At follow-up appointments, we'll review how things are going and refine the plan when needed, weighing both your firsthand experience and structured tools where they add value. Some people improve fairly quickly; others need patience and gradual adjustment to land on the right fit. Either path is entirely normal, and I'll be alongside you the whole way. If side effects worry you, your symptoms shift noticeably, or something unexpected comes up, I encourage you to get in touch. Reaching out early tends to lead to better outcomes and lets us tackle problems before they grow. When it serves your care, I work in close partnership with your therapist, primary care doctor, and anyone else on your team. Because mental health is so closely linked to physical health, relationships, and life circumstances, this kind of teamwork often produces the strongest results. Above all, I want you to experience real relief and a fuller, more satisfying life—reached through clinical skill, genuine compassion, and an honest dedication to your healing.
