Getting to know Dr. Amanda Persaud

Hello! I am a New York City-based Amanda D. Persaud (she/her), a licensed clinical psychologist that provides long-term psychotherapy for adults of all ages. I have extensive experience in working with individuals experiencing problems related to mood, anxiety, trauma, and relationship challenges, or other common concerns. I aim to foster a therapeutic environment that is collaborative, supportive, and judgment free, providing a safe space for the facilitation of healing and the process of growth and change. My approach to therapy is client-centered and integrated, drawing from various treatment modalities, including psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, and emotion-focused therapies. My goal is to collaboratively and creatively develop flexible and individualized treatment to honor each client’s unique needs. Additionally, my approach also centers on tenets of holistic healing and mindfulness, cultivating moment-to-moment awareness, self-compassion, and emotional well-being. As a culturally sensitive provider, it is also of utmost importance to me to use gender affirming, anti-racist, LGBTQIA-affirming, and feminist models of care in my work. I received my doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in Clinical Psychology from Fairleigh Dickinson University. I completed my pre-doctoral internship at Elmhurst Hospital Center, where I received diverse training in long-term individual psychotherapy, group therapy, inpatient and partial hospitalization treatment, crisis management, culturally responsive models of care, and consultation. Furthermore, I have received clinical training in a multitude of mental health settings, including inpatient and outpatient hospitals, college counseling centers, and community mental health centers.

What should a new client know about working with you?

The appointment that you schedule will be for a first session/intake appointment where we will discuss your therapy needs, history, and treatment goals. The first visit will be approximately 55 minutes, and sessions thereafter are approximately 50 minutes long. I require that you commit to therapy for once a week sessions until you have reached your treatment goals. Having once a week sessions have been found to be the most efficacious to reach your goals in therapy. Availability: Please note that my hours are from 8am-2pm. My availability on Zocdoc reflects my current available hours. I do not have weekend or evening appointments. Please note, I conduct therapy sessions and NOT medication management.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

To choose therapy is to make a brave and conscious decision to take action. I feel honored to be able to help my clients channel their strengths to focus on healing, self-compassion, and personal development. I would love to hear about your needs and what you are hoping for.
