Adult Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
OR
Hello, and thank you for taking the time to read my bio. I have lived in Oregon for 16 years and have been a nurse for over 20 years. For the past two years, I have worked as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and have truly enjoyed supporting my clients throughout their mental health journeys. I have experience working with adults living with serious and persistent mental health conditions, including bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, as well as individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, ADHD, ASD, and PTSD. I also enjoy working with women’s mental health concerns, including postpartum depression, postpartum psychosis, and prenatal and perinatal mental health issues. I strive to provide warm, compassionate, and trauma-informed care in all of my interactions. My practice includes both medication management and psychotherapy, and I value integrating the two approaches to gain a broader understanding of what my clients are experiencing. I believe this combined approach helps create a more holistic and supportive treatment experience.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am warm, caring, and strive to make each visit as comfortable as possible. I work collaboratively with my clients, and if they ever feel uncomfortable, we take a pause to openly discuss those feelings and explore how we can learn from the experience together and move forward in a healthier, more productive way. I believe that uncomfortable situations can often create meaningful opportunities for growth.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

First session is intense with lots of questions and getting to know you and who you are as a person, not just a diagnosis. There are many questions about your history from birth to the present day. This helps me gather diagnostic criteria. We will go over which medications worked best or worst for you and why, as well as psychotherapeutic modalities that have or have not been helpful. Yes, I do practice talk therapy as well. By the end of our first session, I typically have a basic set of diagnoses that I like to review with the client to see how they feel about them, along with psychoeducation. Secondly, I make recommendations regarding medications that may be appropriate, and we collaborate while discussing the medications, including benefits, risks, and whether the client feels comfortable with them. Thirdly, we discuss next steps for therapy if the client chooses to pursue therapy, including modalities they have liked or disliked in the past, and we collaborate on a direction to begin with. The second session focuses on establishing collaborative therapy goals and interventions, while also reviewing medications, benefits, and any side effects. By the third session, we typically begin psychotherapy for most of the appointment and end with medication management. I prefer to keep psychotherapy with medication management weekly for 12 weeks or every other week for 24 weeks. If a client is only receiving medication management, I like to meet every other week until the client feels stable and comfortable with the medication, then transition to monthly visits for a few months, followed by every other month, and eventually every three months for medication check-ins.
