I'm Dr. Amenaghawon Ugwuede, a Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner specializing in medication management for individuals seeking additional support alongside psychotherapy. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Loma Linda University and completed my Doctorate in Family Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing at Rush University. Throughout my career, I've had the privilege of working with diverse patient populations across various settings, including county health departments, community mental health agencies, private practice, and even internationally. In my role, I've been fortunate to assist numerous individuals in overcoming their mental health challenges and guiding them toward fulfilling lives.

As a psychiatric provider, I'm acutely aware of the unfortunate realities many individuals face within the mental health field, which is why I am committed to offering personalized, empathetic care that centers around their well-being and autonomy. I believe in the power of collaboration and mutual respect, working together with my patients to craft treatment plans that honor their individual needs and preferences. It's essential to me that every person I work with feels seen, heard, and empowered in their healthcare journey.
I recognize the unique challenges that communities, especially Black individuals and children of immigrants, often encounter when seeking mental health support. That's why I've dedicated myself to specializing in these areas, striving to provide culturally sensitive and affirming care that fosters trust and understanding. Ultimately, my goal is to create a safe and supportive environment where my patients feel empowered to make informed decisions about their health, knowing that they have a compassionate ally by their side every step of the way.

My initial appointment with Dr. Amen was so positive, I'll be returning for regular visits. Dr. Amen created a safe and relaxed environment for me to quickly open up and share my medication needs. Her relaxed conversational style put me at ease. As a minority woman, it's important for your doctor to be culturally informed. I felt seen and heard for the first time by my medical provider. Dr. Amen took her time to explain things clearly and showed me visuals that aid in my learning and understanding. I will be coming back!

She decided my diagnosis before I even explained why I made an appointment. I also got the feeling that she made some judgements on my mentality and upbringing because of my racial background. I felt stereotyped and not listened to. This was a total waste of a co-pay, I don’t recommend this provider at all.
