About Dr. Amir-Hossein Mehran

Dr. Mehran's practice is devoted to minimally invasive general and bariatric surgery. The name University Bariatrics reflects his initial goal of combining the integrity and values of his past academic career with a new private practice focus on serving the community around him. Dr. Mehran earned his Doctor of Medicine from Duke University. He completed residencies in surgery at the University of California, San Francisco, and in general surgery at RWJBarnabas Health. He further specialized with a fellowship in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at Cleveland Clinic Florida. Dr. Mehran is board certified in surgery and licensed in California. He is a member of multiple surgical societies and has served as a consultant for various regulatory agencies, surgical journals, the media, and the medical industry. In recognition of his dedication and efforts, his peers have repeatedly elected him to the Southern California Super Doctors list. Dr. Mehran has contributed to over 160 publications and presentations and has mentored numerous fellows, residents, and medical students.

Dr. Mehran was very friendly and personable. I arrived a little early, when inside and was meet by Dr. Mehran himself, with "hello, you must be Gary". His office personal apparently was not in yet. He took he right back into an exam room and knew what was most likely the problem. After talking with me and felling around my abdomen, he explained what was going on and gave me some options. I felt very comfortable with him and would highly recommend him to anybody.

As someone who works in healthcare, I have been on both the patients and providers side. With that being said, I am a very good judge of providers, and hold them to the highest standard. Dr. Mehran is by far the best doctor I have ever come across his bedside manner, communication, skills, thorough assessment, genuine interest in the patient, well-being, and passion for his craft speaks volumes. Front office worker had an unpleasant attitude and was not helpful in answering my questions about obtaining my previous medical records that were needed for the appointment…not a very positive beginning…
BUT the surgeon was great! Although he couldn’t help me, his bedside manner was appealing, he was knowledgeable, and provided thorough answers to my questions. He gave me referrals to other surgeons who he felt were more equipped to handle my issues.

Dr. Mehran provides important information to his patients to help them make the right decision about having surgery on their own. He is very responsive when questions arise and is very supportive along the way. He spends a great deal of time explaining the entire process and makes sure the patient has had the opportunity to ask questions and feel confident about their choice. I appreciate the personal touch from him and his office throughout my surgical experience.

Before my consultation, Martha was so polite and accommodating over the phone and made an apt right away. No hassle. There was no wait time in the lobby, I was seen by the doctor promptly. Dr. Mehran was so reassuring, knowledgeable and answered all my questions without me feeling rushed, I have referred his office to several friends. Great Surgeon. I love how they run their office.

I had an exceptional experience with Dr. Mehran. I cannot say enough good things about him. He has a wonderful bedside manner, and made me and my wife very comfortable. All of my questions were answered, I never felt rushed, and he has fantastic office staff. Martha was always on top of the insurance paperwork and requirements, making the process easy for me. Highly recommend!
