Getting to know Dr. Andrea Cohen

Welcome, I'm so glad you're here. If you're feeling stuck in patterns that leave you anxious, disconnected, or uncertain about your next steps, you're not alone. Many of my clients come to me carrying the weight of old wounds, family dynamics, relationship struggles, or perfectionism - unsure how to move forward but ready for change. Seeking support takes courage, and I offer a space where you can explore these challenges with compassion, curiosity, and care. With a PsyD in Clinical Psychology from Albert Einstein College of Medicine and 20 years of experience, I've learned that meaningful growth happens when we feel truly seen and accepted. Together, we'll uncover the roots of what's holding you back and create tools for lasting change. Whether you're facing anxiety, depression, trauma, or life transitions, I offer a collaborative space for healing and growth. I also hold a bachelor's degree from the University at Albany, which laid the foundation for my commitment to understanding and supporting mental health. Ready to begin? If you're ready to explore what's possible for you, I offer a free 15-minute consultation to see if we're a good fit. Contact me today to schedule your consultation.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My path to psychology began with deep soul-searching. A college course, The Undiscovered Self, first sparked my fascination with the human mind — exploring consciousness through Jungian psychology, shamanism, and other mind-body perspectives. That passion led me to pursue a master’s in general psychology and a doctorate in clinical psychology, and I’ve been committed ever since to helping others make sense of their inner worlds and heal what holds them back. Note: I do not accept insurance, but I can provide a super-bill for you to submit to your insurance provider for out-of-network reimbursement.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our work together is collaborative and insight-oriented. We’ll look closely at the patterns that keep you stuck, where they come from, and how to create new ways of thinking, feeling, and relating — ones that feel more aligned with who you truly are. Clients often come away with: • A deeper understanding of themselves and their story • More fulfilling and connected relationships • Freedom from cycles of shame, anxiety, and perfectionism • A stronger sense of self and purpose You don’t have to figure this out alone. If you’re ready to explore how therapy can help, I offer a free 15-minute consultation to see if working together feels right for you. Let’s connect — reach out today.

It was my first appt and I was running late, but she was patient and kind. Beautiful space too. Will be back.
I have never felt more heard and understood than I do in session with Dr. Cohen. I highly recommend her.
Very intelligent and empathetic. She got a good read on my situation and offered suscinct insight
Phenomenal therapist. Do not hesitate to book an appointment with Dr. Cohen.
After a first meeting, the doctor sent a long text message suggesting that I could not become a patient in case I wanted to be seen more than 1x per week. I never mentioned wanted to be seen more than 1x weekly, I felt as though she was overbooked or overwhelmed and created an excuse not to take on a new patient. Instead of being honest about this, I got this strange text message suggesting that I had done something wrong by seeking to be in her care. Strange and off-putting.

I was referred to Dr. Cohen by a friend, who has been seeing her for ongoing sessions for a year. She's made amazing positive changes in her life. I felt very comfortable discussing my issues with Dr. Cohen. She was warm and insightful and we laid out goals that we are going to focus on going forward. I felt very supported and safe throughout the session. I look forward to going back.

She was nice and very insightful, but she talks quite a bit and goes on long monologues, perhaps to organize her thoughts. I felt the desire to be able to talk more and have more coming from me. Perhaps this style works better for others.
Dr. Cohen was one of the most empathetic doctors I've ever worked with. She was a great person for my partner and I for our relationship counseling, and we would use her again.

She's a tremendous listener and pushes you to be a better person.. I'm looking forward to continuing my sessions with Dr. Cohen.
Dr Cohen is the first doctor I've worked with for therapy, but she's been fantastic. She''s patient and kind, but isn't afraid to push you when needed.

I can't even put into words how grateful I am to have found Dr. Cohen. I have spent weeks searching for a therapist and most wouldn't even return phone calls. Dr. Cohen returned my call right away, took time to listen to my issue "before" my first visit and during my first visit she was genuinely engaged and caring. I know without a doubt that she will help me.
