Dr. Andrea Lowden was born in Santiago, Dominican Republic. After completing medical school, she moved to the United States, where her journey in neurology and epilepsy started. Throughout her career, she has been committed to providing timely, compassionate, and exceptional care to her patients and families. When you meet Dr. Lowden, it is quickly apparent that she is dedicated to understanding the “why” and providing an accurate diagnosis and individualized treatment to each of her patients. Prior to co-founding The Epilepsy Care Center, she was an Associate Professor of Pediatrics, Neurology, and Epilepsy in the division of Pediatric Neurology & Epilepsy at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. For almost a decade she has provided care to individuals with refractory epilepsy in the Dallas Metroplex. Her expertise extends to various areas in epilepsy including epilepsy surgery, genetic and rare epilepsies, magnetoencephalography, neuromodulation (vagal nerve stimulation, responsive nerve stimulation, deep brain stimulation), and dietary treatments for epilepsy including the ketogenic diet, modified Atkins diet and low glycemic index. She was also the Co-Director for the Angelman Syndrome Foundation Clinic which is a comprehensive clinic serving patients with Angelman Syndrome. In addition to this, she has a special interest in global health epilepsy. She has been actively engaged in bridging the gap in global health disparities in resource-limited settings, especially in Latin American countries. As a highly skilled epileptologist, Dr. Lowden has received numerous awards and has been a speaker at multiple regional, national, and international conferences. She has also been awarded as a Top specialist in D Magazine.
