Dr. Andrew Ho grew up on a farm in New Jersey and became a physician out of a desire to help people. He earned his MD and completed his psychiatry residency at the University of California, San Diego, graduating in 1995. Board certified in 1997, he joined the UCLA faculty, teaching medical students and psychiatry residents while serving as an attending physician at the West Los Angeles VA and Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. His experience includes psychotherapy and pharmaceutical research in mood disorders, substance abuse, sleep, schizophrenia, and migraine.
Dr. Ho believes in using the most appropriate tools and technologies to enhance mental health, tailoring them to each patient’s needs and goals. He values efficiency, aiming to help patients feel better as quickly as possible. A minimalist in prescribing, he avoids unnecessary medications, preferring one effective treatment over multiple prescriptions when possible.
In the first session, Dr. Ho focuses on identifying the most significant challenges, their origins, and potential causes. He then collaborates with patients to select the most promising treatment options based on their history and needs. Follow-up visits are used to review progress, apply lessons learned, and identify the best path forward toward continued improvement.
