Andrew Smith, APRN

Adult Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
274 Madison Ave, Rm 1501, New York, NY
*After booking, you will receive a link via IntakeQ so you can complete the required intake forms prior to your appointment* I’ve had particular success working with anxiety disorders, depression, and co-occurring substance use, especially when symptoms feel overwhelming or difficult to make sense of. I focus on helping patients understand what they’re experiencing, such as differentiating intrusive thoughts from more severe conditions, which often reduces fear and improves engagement in treatment. I also work well with individuals who feel stuck in cycles of rumination, avoidance, or emotional dysregulation, helping them build insight and develop more effective ways to cope and function day to day. I have experience working with young adults and adults. I also have a strong interest in working with LGBTQIA+ individuals and underserved populations, with a focus on creating an affirming, inclusive space. I’m comfortable working with individuals managing complex or overlapping challenges and supporting them through periods of transition and growth.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I want patients to know that I approach care in a very real, down-to-earth, and non-judgmental way. I’m not here to overanalyze or make things feel overly clinical; I’m here to understand you and work with you at your pace. My hope is that you feel comfortable being honest, even about things that are hard to say, and that over time you gain a clearer understanding of yourself, feel more in control of your thoughts and emotions, and build confidence in navigating your life. I’m most passionate about making mental healthcare more approachable, especially for LGBTQIA+ individuals and underserved communities who often face added barriers, stigma, or lack of access to care. I find it meaningful to create a space that feels safe, affirming, and non-judgmental, where people can be fully themselves. My goal is to help break down overwhelming experiences into something more understandable and manageable, while empowering patients to feel seen, supported, and confident in their lives.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My approach is collaborative and down-to-earth. I try to make therapy feel like a real, comfortable conversation, not overly clinical or scripted. I use a mix of practical strategies (like CBT) and supportive therapy, alongside thoughtful medication management when appropriate. I always tailor things to the person in front of me. My goal is to help patients feel understood, actively involved in their care, and equipped with tools they can use in their everyday lives.

I get that figuring out insurance can feel confusing and overwhelming, especially when you're already dealing with stress or anxiety. That's why I accept most major insurance plans and have a team that handles the details for you. We'll check your coverage, explain your costs clearly, and help you understand your options, so you can focus on feeling better, not paperwork. Most patients pay $35 or less per psychiatry appointment, including copays and deductibles. Getting support shouldn't feel like another impossible task, and with us, it doesn't have to.
