Getting to know Angela Phillips-McCord

I work with teens and adults who feel overwhelmed by identity questions, relationship stress, or old emotional wounds. In therapy, we make sense of what's been weighing on you, ease anxiety, and break unhelpful patterns. You'll gain clarity, stronger self-trust, healthier relationships, and a deeper connection to yourself—all in an affirming, supportive space.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach to therapy is trauma-informed, collaborative, and deeply rooted in creating emotional safety. I believe healing happens when people feel genuinely seen, supported, and accepted, so I strive to create a space where you can show up authentically without fear of judgment. My style is warm, compassionate, and conversational while still being intentional and growth-oriented. I will meet you where you are, move at a pace that feels safe, and work alongside you to better understand the patterns, experiences, and emotions impacting your life. I gently challenge clients when appropriate, while always prioritizing trust, respect, and your individual needs. In our work together, you can expect a balance of emotional processing, insight-building, practical coping tools, and support in developing healthier relationships with yourself and others. Some sessions may focus on exploring past experiences and trauma, while others may center around present stressors, identity exploration, boundaries, anxiety, or navigating life transitions. I specialize in inclusive, affirming care for marginalized communities, especially women and LGBTQIA2S+ clients, and I value cultural sensitivity, authenticity, and empowerment throughout the therapeutic process. Therapy is not about “fixing” you. It’s about helping you feel more connected to yourself, supported in your healing, and empowered to create meaningful change in your life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

A session with me is warm, collaborative, and grounded in emotional safety. I strive to create a space where you can show up exactly as you are without fear of judgment. Together, we’ll explore the experiences, patterns, and emotions that may be keeping you feeling stuck, overwhelmed, disconnected, or exhausted. My approach is trauma-informed, inclusive, and affirming, with a deep commitment to supporting women and LGBTQIA2S+ clients. Sessions may include processing past experiences, building coping skills, exploring identity, strengthening boundaries, improving relationships, or reconnecting with your sense of self. I believe therapy should feel supportive, empowering, and human. Some sessions may be deeply reflective, while others may focus on practical tools and emotional regulation. My goal is to help you feel seen, supported, and more connected to yourself as you move toward healing and growth.
