“September 2024 I had problems with my speech mostly the volume. I had very soft speech that would trail off when speaking due to a flare up of my myasthenia gravis. Others had problems hearing me especially on the phone. I was referred for speech therapy and had trouble finding a therapist who had availability or who saw adult patients. I was fortunate enough to be seen and treated by Annie Shankis Quirk MA, MS, CCC -SLP at True Self Speech Therapy . I initially started with Zoom calls then eventually chose to see her in person. She is the BEST speech therapist! So knowledgeable, kind, experienced and tailors each session to your individual needs. She consistently gave feedback showing progress made working towards my goals. If I could rate her greater than 5 stars I would. I HIGHLY recommend her !!!”

As a mtf trans woman, I've never been happy with my voice even prior to my transition or even before knowing I was trans, and after coming out I felt that my voice was a big factor towards me getting incorrectly gendered constantly. I took speech therapy lessons with Anne for about 6 months to help retrain my voice to something I was more happy with and more consistent with the way I see myself and would like to present - and I could not give a more glowing recommendation! I love my voice now, using it is easier and feels more natural than using my old voice, and I can't remember the last time I've been misgendered! Anne has been a total blessing!
