About Dr. Antonio Costa
Philosophy of care
My philosophy is to focus on patients and work with them to achieve optimal health through screening for medical conditions, addressing medical problems, and promoting a healthy lifestyle. I believe in the family medicine model of approaching the whole patient in the context of their background to ensure the best outcomes and healthiest life. This approach incorporates the entire family and the role family plays in health—because when patients have that social support, they tend to have better outcomes.
Why I entered medicine
I became interested in medicine during college. There wasn’t one defining moment—I had a fascination with human health. My interest solidified before medical school when I worked as an office manager and medical assistant at a medical center in Queens, where I grew up. I also volunteered in radiology, microbiology labs, and with an ambulance corps.
Education and training
I earned my Bachelor’s degree from Long Island University and received my Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. I completed my residency in Family Medicine at Plainview Hospital.
Community involvement
I moved here from Queens in July 2016 and am enjoying learning more about the Lehigh Valley.
Personal interests
I like spending time with family and friends, hiking, camping, and exploring the Lehigh Valley—restaurants, sights, and natural walks. Some favorite places include Hawk Mountain, Glen Onoko Falls, and Lake Nockamixon. I enjoy nature and being active. I also like to travel and have visited South America and Europe, including a recent trip to Spain. I recently returned to the Dominican Republic, where I had a global health rotation during residency.
