What should a new client know about working with you?

I like to meet clients where they're at, holding no judgment towards their current experience, emotional state, or mindset. My approach becomes adaptable based on a client's readiness, comfort level, and capacity. Understanding an individual's story, goals, and uniqueness is my aim while paying attention not only to what is said, but also to patterns in emotions, relationships, and behaviors. I aim to build trust with my clients so that each thought and experience can be spoken about openly, while utilizing that same trust to ask questions that may feel challenging or bring up discomfort in order to help clients grow at a pace that feels safe and respectful. The therapeutic process takes time—especially when using attachment-based and psychodynamic approaches—as we gradually explore the layers and patterns that have influenced current thoughts, behaviors, and relationships.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I understand that it takes time to build trust in a therapeutic relationship. In our first session, I typically begin with general intake questions to understand what’s bringing someone to therapy, while also starting to get to know them on a personal level. This initial process may take a few sessions, and during that time, I'm hopeful that clients will begin to sense my genuine intention to understand them on a deeper level. From there, if we both feel the therapeutic fit is right, we can begin the process of collaborative work, exploring the areas where one feels stuck and uncovering a path towards healing and growth together.
