About Dr. Arkadiy Shusterman

Dr. Shusterman graduated from Leningrad Medical Institute of Russia as one of the top students in his class in 1982. For the next ten years, he practiced as a staff physician at Mechiniko Hospital of Leningrad, where he diagnosed and treated patients with various pathologies while conducting extensive research to establish criteria for early diagnosis of intoxication caused by multi-component toxic complexes. In 1993, Dr. Shusterman emigrated to the US and by 1997, he completed his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree at the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine, part of the New York Institute of Technology. From 1997 to 2000, Dr. Shusterman served as a resident in Primary Care Internal Medicine at Brookdale University Hospital & Medical Center, where his exceptional determination and work ethic earned him the title of Chief Resident. Since 2001, Dr. Shusterman has been providing quality health care to patients of all ages and backgrounds.

The doctor was very profesional and nice. I didn't like the fact that to do blood work I would have had to walk over ten blocks to get my blood drawn at a lab. I wont be returning to that office.

Dr. Shusterman is a great doctor and I respect him greatly, but unfortunately I will be switching PCP due to the incompetence if his staff. It seems they do not relay any appointment information to him since he never has any idea what I am there for.
I am in the process of obtaining a special assignment at work that requires me to provide extensive medical information and certain tests. I relay this information to the front desk during a phone call to confirm my zocdoc appointment, and I am assured that "everything is in order". I ask about my new insurance and wether or not they'll take it and again, I am told that "everything is in order".
When I arrive I am not even asked to provide insurance information but to pay a co- pay (which my insurance claims I don't have to pay). This doesn't bother me as much. What bothers me is being told by the doctor that they don't perform the test I went there to get.
Why did no one tell me this? Why was I told that "everything is in order" when it clearly wasn't?
Those my friends, are questions we'll never know the answer to. But one thing is certain and that's the fact that I won't be returning there.

Dr Shusterman is an excellent physician. He's a great listener. I love him.
Unfortunately, his front desk assistant is not pleasant at all. She needs to learn how to be nice and listen to the concerns of the patients without being rude and blowing them off for no reason. I have been reluctant to visit the Dr even if he's my primary because of his one staff member

His assistant, front desk manager is lovely ??. She's was very courteous to me and even helped me out. I was very nervous before the visit and she helped calm my nerves.

Dr Shusterman is amazing. He's a great physician but, he secretary Berta is not pleasant. She has no telephone manners and is condescending when speaking to me. I asked her a simple question and she was nasty to me. She yelled at me and treated me as if I was trash.
Being a medical office manager myself, this type of behavior, unfortunately, reflects poorly on Dr Shusterman even though he's an outstanding man and medical doctor.
I am truly considering looking for another primary care physician just so that I won't have to ever deal with that irate woman.
